Assistance Needed From Sydney

Wed Jun 25, 2003 2:02 pm

A favour from someone in Sydney please. I am trying to phone the Ukraine Consulate in Edgecliffe (02) 9328-5429 / 5013 / 5164.

I am getting no ring at any of those numbers calling from Japan.

Could someone in Sydney (A) check that they work (B) check the number in the phone book.

Do you drop the zero in (02) when phoning from abroad to Oz ?

I called those three numbers from here with no luck - they don't seem to be listed.

I called the Ukraine association in Edgecliff but there was no answer there either. So I called the Australian Department of Foreign Affair's Sydney office and they only had numbers for a Consulate in Melbourne and the Embassy in Canberra. They said they had no lising for a Consulate of Ukraine despite it being in our White pages. Anyway - here are the numbers that were on the Answering machine in Melbourne:

Consulate General of Ukraine (Melbourne): (03) 9848 6038

Embassy of Ukraine (Canberra): (02) 6230 5789

" " " " visa information: (02) 6230 7940
" " " " Fax number: (02) 6230 7298

And when making international calls you do include the "02" or "03" or whatever it is.

Sorry couldn't help you exactly.

Qantasforever,

You don't include the '0' of the '02' when calling from abroad.

For example:

" " " " visa information: (02) 6230 7940

You would dial [insert IDD for country your in] 61-2-6230-7040

IDD=International Direct Dial Code

61=Australia's country code

Pardon my communications ignorance.  Big grin

You tried the number? If so - any luck?

QF,

I tried the numbers that PacificJourney supplied and I just get the standard Telstra recorded message.

They do not exist.

Cheers,

mb

Thanks very very much both of you.

Forget Sydney, I will try the Embassy number tomorrow and see what happens. The Canberra Embassy isn't on the Ukraine Foreign affairs web-site so obviously it's a secret.
