This is a wonderful thing. However, I can't help but think of how long it will take the telemarketing companies to come up with a way around the new law. And yes, I am on the Do Not Call list.
As for the "freedom of speech" comment...the only freedom of speech involved for me, when someone is waking me up out of a sound sleep with a call at 8:30 am, trying to get me to subscribe to a newspaper or sell me something I don't need or want, is the number of swear words I manage to shout into the phone, if I pick it up. I used to subscribe to privacy manager for my telephone line, whereby people ringing from unidentified numbers had to record their names before the call would go through. The feature eliminated telemarking calls almost entirely. My current service provider doesn't offer privacy manager, but the calls are still not coming through. Hopefully, they never will.
On a related subject, I am finding e-mail spam increasingly annoying. I didn't check my e-mail for three days, and had 57 new messages, 40 of which were spam. I can't wait for the "Do Not E-mail" list to become available.
