White Zombie, February 1993. Limelight NYC, fought through one heck of a snowstorm to get there, and if anyone knows the Limelight it was the perfect place for a White Zombie Concert.

Moshing to Thunder Kiss '65, drinking beers (they served me) and watching the hot strippers in the cages above the dance floor.

Crazy time.

I was 17 at the time, the concert was on a Sunday night (actually started after Midnight). I got home the next morning at 7AM, school started at 7:30 AM so me and my friend Bill (who went to the concert with me) drove straight from the NJ Transit train station to school all bombed , sweaty and tired as heck.

Thankfully because of all the snow there was a two hour delayed opening, so we went home, I slept for two hours took a shower and went to school at about 10Am sporting my White Zombie t-shirt and all sorts of stories.

Everyone was jealous.

Judas Priest @ The Palladium in NYC 6/80...18 years old. Excellent show with the band at their peak.

I did attend a 'Chicago' show a few years before that, albeit at a local college (I guess they were past their peak by then ), and I was tagging along with some people who had an extra ticket...it wasn't really my kind of music, but I figured, "what the hell?" File that under the "a bad day fishing beats a good day at work" category.

I saw the Faces when I was about 13. I can still listen to them today - excellent.

I last saw Whitesnake and Gary Moore about a month ago. Gary Moore was unbelievable. More sound came from him than the whole of Whitesnake, he's one of the most talented out there.

Billy Idol, Long Beach Convention Center, March 1984. It was his "Rebel Yell" tour. I was 15 years old.

I saw him in 2001 twice, first at Mandalay Bay in Las Vegas and again in November of the same year at House of Blues in Anaheim. I guess you could say I'm a huge fan. Billy's still got it, he sounded and looked great!

The best part about these concerts was that I went with my same girlfriend from high school. We went to his 84 show and many other concerts after that. It was just like old times!

That would be Midnight Oil at Roskilde Festival 1990 - I was 8, and got in on a free ticket since my parents were working there. Now, I'm working there myself, so my most recent would be Björk who closed the Festival last Sunday.

Sleeper supported my Silversun, and Mansun at Portsmouth Guildhall back in 1996 on the It Girl Tour. They were brilliant.

Other highlights.

Tori Amos live same venue same year.
Inspiral Carpets in March this year at Brixton Academy.
The Levellers supported by Audioweb live at Exeter Uni in 1999- they were nothing short of blinding - truly the best live act ive ever seen bar none.

Shed Seven (and lots of lesser names), at some university gig in about 1996.

One of my friends was at the university, arranging the event, and hired me to help out with lighting... a day's work in return for an handful of cash, a free concert (backstage access, of course), and an endless supply of drunk students. Sounds like a fair deal to me, it's just a shame that some of the people on stage were complete &)'*=(§#s.

Queen on December 4, 1977. I was 11 years old.
A road trip from Pittsburgh to Dayton, Ohio in the snow to see the concert and visit Wright-Patterson AFB Museum. I love Queen (I was already a big fan) and the XB-70 to this day!
Amazing show, but my biggest lasting mental image of the show is the odd glow from within the marijuana bowl that the loser next to me tried to pass to me. (I was 11 forcryinoutloud!) The show was at the arena at the U. of Dayton and the whole thing became one HUGE bong; completely filled with smoke.

I was 17. It was my first time in Seattle. I went with a group from church to see Michael W Smith and Amy Grant at Seattle Center Arena. We were there for 3 days in mid-December. It rained the whole time, and snowed over the pass. We had to chain up to get over the pass, but the tire chains were too big for the tires. I think we finally got home about 3AM. We kept losing one girl and two other girls were exchange students from Japan. Those two were screaming on the elevator ride up Space Needle. Then, there was the guy that was working at the pizza place with the French silk purse.... What a weekend!

Superfly,
Yes, I believe it was NoTW. About 30 frisbees and beach balls flying around, the thick haze, the stage done up with the fabric "crown", the light show...
What an experience!
I saw Queen again much later, right after Freddie introduced the moustache (The Game?), and that was my second favorite concert ever, but nothing could compare to that first show.
Sorry, but they were both better than the Rush show I went to!  Smile/happy/getting dizzy

First proper concert I saw was The Clash back in 1983, but I had seen various low key gigs prior to that. Since then I have seen the Police or Sting about 40 times per year ever since. Highlights include front row at the concert he did in his back garden in Tuscany on Sept 11th. Only about 150 us there at the time

Don't worry Superfly, the THIRD and FORTH gigs I ever saw were Rush on the (yes) Hold Your Fire tour (London Wembley Arena Mar 88); my first two were Ultravox and Eurythmics (also at Wembley). And those two Rush gigs remain in my all time top 5 gigs and probably had a lot to do with deciding the music biz was for me. Here's most of the rest (that I could remember one time when I was bored last year). Some were work and aren't things I'm into (Jamiroqui), others were life-changing (Tower Of Power). I won't elaborate on which is which, they were all good in their way, even New Kids On The Block. Since I did this list, the only two I can think of are Avril Lavigne and Dave Brubeck. How about that?

AC/DC. Adam Ant. A-Ha. Allman Brothers Band. Banderas. Ben Folds Five. Bob Dylan. Boon Gould. Cast. China Crisis*. Chuck Berry. Coldplay. David Bowie. David Kitt*. Dr Feelgood. Dream Theater*. Duran Duran. Eurythmics*. Faust. Fish. Foo Fighters. Francis Dunnery*. Fun Lovin’ Criminals. Garbage. Gary Numan**. H Band. Hanson. Hothouse Flowers. Howard Jones. Ian McNabb. Icicle Works. Iona. It Bites. Jamiroqui*. Jerry Harrison. Jerry Lee Lewis. Jimmy Somerville. Joe Jackson*. John Farnham*. John Martyn. Jools Holland. Julie Cruise. Kings X*. Kitaro. Kraftwork. Lamb. Level 42*. Little Richard. Magma. Marillion*. Mark King*. Michael Bolton. Mike Lindup. Morrisey. New Kids On The Block. Nik Kershaw*. Oasis. OMD. Pat Metheny. Placebo. Primal Scream*. Queensryche. Richard Thompson. Rob Reynolds*. Rush*. Sam Brown. Santana. Showaddywaddy. Simple Minds*. Sneaker Pimps. Spice Girls*. Starsailor. Supergrass. Tangerine Dream*. Tears For Fears. Texas. The Big Dish. The Chameleons. The Cure. The Silencers. Tower Of Power. Turin Brakes. Ultravox. Wilco Johnson. Wishbone Ash*. Wolfsbane. Zerra One.

* means more than once
** means more than 40 times (Gary Numan)

That is an elaborate list there.  Smokin cool

I saw Gary Numan here in SFO at the Fillmore a few years ago. I met him after the show and he signed my 8track cartridge of 'Pleasure Principle'. He goes with heavy British accent ; "My gosh! It's a f--king 8track. I didn't know I made one. I must be really old!"

I've seen Jamiroquai 4 times. The best was in 1996 at Bimbos which is a small bar here in SFO. That group went down hill fast once they started making money and the lead singers ego grew bigger than the universe.

I am sure the Spice Girls were fun. Baby Spice is my favorite!  Smokin cool

Mr Fly, I think we had this exact conversation a year or two ago. Hold Your Fire was a great period for Rush, although I recently repurchased A Farewell To Kings which is a decade older, and it rocked big time, and it was surprisingly funky, I think of Rush as being like the Whitest Band Ever but it moved quite nicely thank you.

Spice Girls were good, I enjoyed them (a) cos they were simply so fucking famous and (b) they had the best session players in the country in the band who did some great musical stuff, when it was audible through the mind-bending deafening pre-teen shriek of the audience which was excrutiating - there's a few pop acts in the list and I wouldn't recommend the experience if you want to survive with your hearing intact.

I never saw Jamiroqui through choice, SO BORING! No strong songs, no choruses, every song identical. After one of the gigs I was talking to some bloke who was complaining that they hadn't played When You Gonna Learn, which I take it was a hit of some sort. In a rare moment when I thought of a witty line on the spot instead of on the way home in the car two hours too late, I enquired of the man how he could possibly tell?

Numan rules.

I know whare you are coming from. A Farewll To Kings is one of my all time favorites.

That Jamiroquai song 'When You Gonna Learn' was the first song I ever heard of them and it really pulled me in.
Keep in mind this was 1993 when they came out. I never liked grunge nor hip-hop of that era. So when Jamiroquai came out, I was estatic!
