Help While In Singapore

Tue Jul 08, 2003 3:28 pm

I will be in Singapore for a couple of days (arriving this Firday) and was wondering if any members from Singapore could give me some tips as to where to go shopping. I am interested mainly in clothes,discmans/mini-discs and cheap DVDs. Being a student still, I am on a budget, so I am afraid I will have to give those expensive shops on Orchard road a miss. I have only been to Mustafas... so my cheap shopping experience in Singapore ends there.

A friend told me that Johor Bahru is the place to go for shopping. Is this the case for clothes/dvds/electronics? If so, how do I get a bus ticket to go there and also how long does it take?

Any help or assistance would be greatly appreciated. Many thanks...  Smile

Lovely to hear that you are coming to Singapore!

Are you flying Singapore Airlines?

I suggest you drop by the suburbs to get cheap deals, there are many suburban shopping malls you can give a try. Maybe you'd be interested to meet up with me and some other local A.net users?

Hey Zizou - I will be transiting through SIN on Friday at exactly the same time as you (arriving 1420 on SQ 319 from LHR leaving 1600 on SQ 66 to BKK). You interested in meeting up for a quick hi and maybe a lounge visit? Drop me an email if so and we can set something up.

Ok, how about we try to meet at 1440hrs (about 20 mins after arrival for both of us) at the top of the Escalators on the "F" side Arrivals area in Terminal 2 (there are two arrivals areas in Terminal 2, one on the "E" side by gate E1 and the other on the "F" side - we should meet at the "F" side). I should be wearing a dark green polo shirt and khakis, carrying a black tote bag and a laptop case. If you can't find me you can call my Singapore handphone at +65-91920798.

Interesting how so many a.netters from the region seems to be crossing paths at SIN this coming weekend. I'll be there too on Saturday (7/12), plus another one or two a.net photogs from HKG. Looks like a gathering is in order. Big grin

'949, why not we try organising some large-scale gathering or something?  Big thumbs up

Like the one organized at Changi just about a year ago? I recall the organizer commenting afterwards that he felt like a school teacher bringing the kids out on a field trip !!  Smile

N949WP - what time in SIN on the 12th? I'm inbound at 1400 hrs on SQ 63 (from BKK) and then outbound on SQ 285 at 2100 (to AKL) with a meeting downtown in the middle, but I can try and arrange a meet with you guys on the 12th as well. Email me if interested.

I am keen for this meeting too. Like to meet some of the Singapore members.

Also, B747-437B I have a slight problem, being that I need to collect my bags and pass customs etc. So I guess I can't hang around too much? Is there a way around this though? I am not entirely familiar with Changi but I will find you.

OK, here are my travel plans ..........inbound to SIN on CX717 at 1255 on the 12th, and outbound back to HKG on CX716 at 1715 on the 15th. Some other friends of mine will be arriving SIN on the 13th on SQ1.

I'll most likely hang around the observation decks at T1 or T2 for the afternoon of my arrival before checking-in to my hotel that evening.

Zizou - wait for me at the top of the escalators by the "F" arrivals in Terminal 2 BEFORE clearing immigration. I will meet you there and we can clear immigration together. Its the easiest place to meet and will be the quickest for everyone.

N949WP - if you have no checked baggage you should also try to meet with us there between 1420 to 1440. If not, send me an SMS to +65-91920798 (wont be able to check it till about 1400hrs on Friday tho) and we will set up an alternate place.
