17th Birthday...hmm...

Fri Jul 18, 2003 9:53 am

Okay, so as of the last hour or so, I'm 17 years old. I don't feel like I have any more freedoms but I can already tell I have a whole hell of a lot more in terms of responsibility in store. As my grandmother said, I'm (expletive) out of luck. The only perk in store is that I get to tour universities in California as soon as I get back. Things don't get any easier, do they? Oh well. Good times, anyway.  Big thumbs up I'm thoroughly enjoying myself. It just feels really wierd!

You can now see a rated 'R' movie!

Wow, thats strange. One of my little brother's friends turned 17 today (July 17th) aswell. In addition to her, I have another friend who's birthday is today who actually used to participate on this forum...N4KHGirl (if you remember her). She didn't turn 17 today though.

AA61hvy...I sort of knew that was coming (it's what I get for posting pointless threads that don't start with "Most Pointless Thread EVER")!  Big grin Oh well. I guess if the MPAA deems me old enough to watch R movies I can handle the shaft.

Flyf15...Yeah! I remember her... she hasn't posted on here in quite some time...

I remember turning 17. Personally, I thought being 17 suckedl I liked 16 much better. In Texas, you become criminally liable in the adult court system at 17, but you really don't get much more privileges (other than the seeing an R rated movie as an above poster mentioned, but when I was 17 (6 years ago) nobody really cared or checked IDs for that matter. You don't even get to vote or be considered an adult until you're 18. I did get to get my pilot's license when I was 17, so that's definitely a plus. Unfortunately, things don't get easier IMO, but you do get more control over your life. As you get older, you'll be more responsible for your own affairs, but you'll have the freedom to manage them in the way you see fit too. Good luck!

I'm going to follow Matt D's lead and give this thread a break. I'm even going to offer birthday wishes.

Happy Birthday bro, but know the next self-gloss thread will be fair game!!!  Big grin

Wait until you turn 18, that's something else. Well in the US it's not the same, but it's great in Europa, cause you're then officially allowed to endanger fellow citizens not only per pedes but on four wheels as well...

Gonna turn 19 on 28th of August, BTW...

Hey, Martin.
If you're talking about driving, it actually varies slightly from state to state here. In my state of California, most students generally start driver's education around 16 or 17, but we have a "graduated licensing" system where we young, reckless hoodlums can't drive unaccompanied by an adult until 18 or some rubbish like that. This is an increasingly popular system of licensing in the US. So, I still have a year to go. I'm not actually going to start endangering people...er...driving until I start university.

aer lingus, in california, for the first 6 months you arnt supposed to drive with anyone else in the car unless someone over 21 is in the car....the cops here in LA are very nice about it if we get caught so we all drove with our friends anyways haha...here at 15 you can get your driving permit and at 16 you get your license!!!!!!

Right...that's how it works. I forgot. The thing is, I won't even need to drive for some time, so I haven't really thought about it too much.

Hate to tell you this, but 17 is just one of those uneventful birthdays. No real significance in what you can do or how you feel. My 23rd is coming up in a month, and I basically feel the same way. But on the flipside it is a good excuse to hang out with your friends and have a goodtime.

Anybody else out there notice how all the oldtimers like me are steering clear of this thread?

Enjoy your youth while it lasts, because, believe me.....it doesn't.

Happy birthday, anyway.
