Shootings Reported @ Manhattan City Hall

Thu Jul 24, 2003 5:07 am

Just turn on the news.

Looks like the gunman was talking with Councilman James Davis and then pulled out a handgun and shot him.

Councilman Davis is dead... confirmed a few minutes ago. The vicinity around city hall is in a lock down. I'm hoping it doesn't affect my commute up to the West Village.

Ok, certainly top story news, but the media is acting like this is some MONSTRUOUS thing. It is a shame that the man died. My sincere condolences to his family, but it's not JFK, which is how the media is treating it.

It kind of surprised me that Mayor Bloomberg said he couldn't remember a day in the last 60 years this tragic. Has he forgotten about 9/11?

But like you said BigPhilNYC, the media certainly is acting like this is a monstrucous thing. But it seems like anything that happens in New York is plastered all over CNN. If my local councilman was shot at city hall, it might make the 6:00 local news.

Still, this is tragic and his family recieves my condolences.
