What Do You Watch On TV?

Wed Jul 30, 2003 12:36 am

I am addicted to reality tv shows...it's sad. But the other day I flipped through a channel that had a bunch of old good shows...

Some of my Favorites are The Cosby Show, Wings (LOL...remember WINGS?), Growing Pains and Who's the Boss...

What are yours? Current or Old.

South Park!!! Although the show is somewhat stupid, there is nothing better than it. I also like the history channel's stuff about wars, Modern Marvels, and Mail Call.

Check my variety out:

Monster Garage on Discovery, you have to check out some of the stuff Jesse James puts out.

Blind Date, when I watch this show I am laughing 90% of the time.

The Simpsons, of late it is not as great though.

I like those documentaries about military and airplane stuff on Discovery and History, etc.

I had Discovery Wings and it kind of sucked. They didn't have much material so they looped old stuff again and again causing me to get it cut off--well actually I didn't pay the cable bill, oh well.

And you can't forget The Tonight Show with Jay Leno. I turn it off right after the monologue, maybe headlines and Jaywalking.

I'm pretty lazy when it comes to movies though, can't make it through one unless it is smut.

There's pretty much nothing to watch on TV here. Some stuff on Discovery, TLC and History channel, NHL Hockey and NFL are decent, but most of the time I don't even touch the TV.

Right now I am addicted to "Paradise Hotel". I even got my roommate hooked. It's just sooo hard to change the channel with all that DRAMA going on. Who's sleeping with whu? Who's gettin kicked off the show? Who is just plain dumb and STILL on the show? LOL...it's too much.

MST3k was great, but i never watched the "Pearl" episodes. I thought it had jumped the shark by then and didn't want to spoil my memory of it like the post-John K episodes of Ren and Stimpy left a bad taste in my mouth.

But if you have that kind of sense of humor, how could you NOT like The Simpsons???!!!??? You gotta watch for the little things to capture it all (like "Morningwood penitentiary" and the billboard in Vegas that read "The Loosest Craps In Town!") all background stuff that just kills!

Mmm, Soylent Green...

I used to love The Simpsons. They deliberately hide lots of little details and references in it, so it pleases the nitpicking geeks like us.  Smile

Ren and Stimpy was another favourite, but it seemed to go downhill after a short while.

Nowadays do without; I just have a couple of PCs in my apartment, and a well-stocked bookshelf. TV isn't vital.

The only show I try to watch is Amazing Race. I admit I am addicted to Passions, but I wish they would just get rid of Sheridan once and for all!!!

Since hockey is not on anymore, I really don't have anything to watch. If I had cable, I would watch Trading Spaces, Soap, and Cartoon Network. What is the one show on CN about the people living together in New York? One guy has his high school aged brother living with them. They once made a boiler room look like the hottest club in the city. Another time the high school kid was looking at porn in the bathroom of the mini-mart and ended up burning the place down. LMAO!!! That one was SO funny!

I still get a kick out of that Biblebacious Babe Gerry Grainger, aka The Vicar of Dibley. Every character in it is top drawer. Also oldies like Only Fools and Horses and Fawlty Towers. OK, I know all those are old repeats.

The only brand new programme I 'must see' is Dead Ringers (a group of impressionists). Jan Ravens does a real horny Fiona Bruce, even better than the real thing!

I'm quite addicted to quizzes such as Mastermind and University Challenge, the latter being way above me most of the time. However, last night one team did not know what the G8 group was all about, but they DID KNOW that the 'G' spot was named after a guy called Graffenberg. Says something, doesn't it?

And "Who want's to be a Millionnaire" Yeh, I'm there too.

To change this up a bit...

Should their be more or less censorship on television? Were you ever restricted as a child as to what you watched?

I personally wasn't...and my parents just talked to me about what was "good" and what was "bad"...but even back then, tv wasn't as bad as it is NOW. Should kids be restricted as to what they see on TV?

Re-runs of The X-Files; Seinfeld; 3rd. Rock from the Sun; New and old episodes of Frasier... New and old episodes of that 70s Show.... Oh, and re-runs of all the Star Trek versions. Oh, and Jerry Springer  Big thumbs up

Yes, I think there needs to be more censoring of TV shows and music videos, in particular. I find it ironic that they bleep out cussing and swearing in music videos, yet, you can watch bodacious hoochie-mommas shake and wiggle their generous packages without a care in the world. er.... Kids don't need to be watching that kind of scandalous activity.

I've gotten into watching TV this summer more than I used to. (Hell, what else is there to do? I'm already on this site 5 hours a day!) So here's my list:

- The Amazing Race - occasionally, and only the airport scenes
- The Critic - I don't know if these are new or not, since I just started watching it
- Dilbert
- Family Guy
- Futurama - now the reruns on Cartoon Network have been cancelled, so I watch it on TBS at 1:00 P.M.
- The Simpsons
- South Park - one of my favorites, except that the seasons seem to be at irregular times

I guess that's about all. In a month I won't get to see but about half of them because of school though.  Sad

What do I watch, in other words what do I watch when I'm in, or tape if I'm out?
Six Feet Under
The Sopranos
Bo Selector
Great comedy repeats like-Faulty Towers, Only Fools And Horses to name two.
Off the wall newer comedies, recent examples being 'The Office', 'Spaced', Monkey Dust', 'The Book Group', anything with arch satirist Chris Morris in.
Any interesting documentaries, often on BBC2 it seems.
Any decent films, e.g Fargo was on the other night.
News, (not ITN though-too trivial).
A decent drama, ('State Of Play 'was very good recently).

No soaps, no Big Brother, no gardening, antique or decorating shows, no 'talent' shows, very little of ITV and Channel 5's output.

I think I've forgotten where my TV is. I haven't turned it on in at least 6 weeks. Now if I had cable access, I might just spend a bit of time (read as too much) watching A&E, The History channel, old movie channels and FX. But I don't so I don't.

Would you believe I've never seen one of those "reality" shows? I feel no loss although my bookshelves are beginning to overflow badly.

"Would you believe I've never seen one of those "reality" shows?"

Consider yourself lucky!

As for my TV habits:

I usually watch discovery, history, the cool true crime shows on A&E. I used to watch a lot of TLC, but not anymore. They used to have cool documentaries about things but now it seems half the days programming is Trading Spaces and the rest is other make over, wedding shows etc. They should change their name to "TWC" or "The Womans Channel"

-A lot of Comedy Central.
-Discovery Channel-excluding the daytime home-deco stuff.
-Evening programming on TLC. They tend to have a lot of cool engineering shows.
- The History Channel.
- And finally...THE FOOD NETWORK! Iron Chef is the greatest Japanese TV since....? Laugh out loud
