Las Vegas Hotels: Which One Is Really Great?

Wed Aug 06, 2003 7:37 am

Hi guys, I´ll be visiting Las Vegas once again during my upcomig trip to the great western part of the United States and I´d like to know which one of all those extraordinary hotels at this, ehem, marvellous city, you would recommend me to spend a few dollars at (well, I´ve been there quite a few times and I´ve never lost more than 50 bucks on one day so far  Big thumbs up).

P.S.: I´ve been to the Luxor, the MGM, the Stardust, the Hilton and the Mirage before so I woluld be glad to visit one of the other monuments soon.

Thanks for your help in advance.

I myself have never been to Vegas but my friend says that The Bellagio is awesome. Also, I like the looks of The Venetian. I've seen a couple of things on the travel channel. Hope that helps.

I've heard the Bellagio is just extraordinary. The Venetian seems pretty cool also. Have a great vacation. What airlines you will be using?

The Luxor is awesome. We had a great stay there-very unique hotel with plenty of amenities.

If you can afford it , go for the Bellagio or Venitian.
If you more budget minded go fot the Luxor or MGM Grand

The Venetian is fantastic. Great rooms, great hotel. Expensive. Mandalay Bay is sweet. Expensive. The Four Seasons on top of Mandalay--perfect! And expensive! Off strip, the Palms and the Hard Rock...rock.

Look wise you can make an argument between Venetian and Bellagio...both are fantastic but when it comes to the casino, i havent been to a nicer and more classy casino then that of Bellagio's....and the women there....amazing

Thank yu for your replies, guys. I´ve been considering the Bellagio and the Venetian before and I do now think that I´ll be trying one of those ones out.

Fly727, I´ll be flying from FRA to SFO on Friday with Lufthansa and back to FRA three weeks later. I would have liked to try out one of the US airlines that I haven´t been on yet (AA, NW, CO) but they didn´t have any good offers at the time when I booked my trip.
However, I´ll be able to try out Delta for the fiorst time since five years ago when I´ll be flying FRA-ATL-MIA-CVG-FRA in September and I really hope they don´t substitute the 764 on the ATL-MIA leg.

My parents swear by the Bellagio when they go to Vegas, but it's a little upscale for me. I'd rather spend the extra money at the slots. But, oh my, the people watching at that place...!

The Mandalay Bay looks pretty swank, and the Four Seasons....hey who could top that hotel? But those places are at the extreme southern end of the Strip....you don't get to experience that critical mass of people down there (which may be your objective).

Same applies for the Hard Rock and Palms..they're both off Strip, but not by far. Seems like worlds away though. Hard Rock has more of the Tits and Ass crowd.

I had a coworker that stayed at the Venetian, but he didn't really like the layout of their "suites"...they weren't two separate rooms but more like a "bilevel" room, but still pretty big for Vegas (most places don't REALLY want you to stay in your room now, do they?).

Have fun, I'll be there at the end of August. Maybe you'll see me there, I'll be the one either panhandling or handing out cheap porno for escort services with the illegal immigrants.

Bellagio....nothing else like it.
A step above (albeit a small one) the Venetian (2nd) or Caesar's (3rd).

Most overrated: The Mirage and the MGM Grand

The Bellagio is nice, but expensive. We stayed across the street at the Paris, which is very nice, and room rates were pretty decent ($79 midweek). We spent most of our time at New York New York though...there always seemed to be something going on there.

Venetian has some of the largest standard rooms at 650 sq. ft, bigger than the Bellagio's 550sq ft, and a little bit cheaper.

The Golden Nugget was excellent during my visit, cheap yet classy, but downtown.

If you are a member of this forum, consider that Luxor and better yet, Mandalay Bay can give great views of the airport!

Thanks a lot for your replies!
I´ll be off to SFO tomorrow and have noticed your recommendations for Las Vegas. I think I´ll be writing a trip report including my experiences in Nevada in this forum so you´ll be able to support me while suffering of intensive inferioty complexes after having spent too much time with those lovely slot machines.
