How To Get My Natural Hair Color Back?

Tue Aug 12, 2003 7:33 am

Iv'e been dying my naturally dirty blonde hair dark brown for a year or so now but a while ago i felt that i wanted to get it back to blonde. So off i went to get some bleaching (?) blonde hair color and thought that i'd get blonde hair by applying that to my hair but boy was i wrong. The part of my hair that has been dyed dark from previous times iv'e dyed it is still as dark brown as before but the roots that are in my natural color became very blonde indeed.

So it seems to me that the standard blonde dye can't do anything about already dark dyed hair, only to naturally colored hair. I really would not like to cut it since iv'e grown it for a year to the length that it is now and i really like it that way. And going to a hair dresser is really not something that appeals to my wallet right now so is there anything out there that can "de-colorize" and take away the dark color that iv'e dyed previously?

Its very very tough to get it 100% back, but let it grow out and just keep cutting until its gone.

Best way? Cut it off really short. Like a few cm long. It's drastic if you have long hair but in the end it's actually faster than if you leave it long.

there are "color strippers" that you can get at a drugstore...they're harsh on your hair, but they'll bleach your hair out...then you can get a permanent dye approximately the same shade as the dirty blonde you remember.

also but some deep conditioner, your hair will need it after all this!

I was a bit unclear there, what i'm actually looking for is to get my hair blonde. Very blonde. Not necessarilly back to my natural color. I'll check the stores for something that can possibly remove or dye blonde over darker dyed hair. Thanx for your tips guys.

The best thing to do would be to go to a salon where they are trained in that and know exactly what to do. But bring your money, my girlfriend spent around $200 to get her color back after a few years of dying at home. But it looks great now and she is much happier.

Shave your head and wait for it to grow back.  Smile

Here in the US there is a product called Clairol Ulatra Blue, it is both a color remover and a bleach. You would be doing a "two-step" process, First the Ultra Blue and then a color that would be a close match of your original hair color.

Be warned that after the ultra blue your hair will look like Big Bird from seaseme street (a bright yellow-orange) but with the second step of adding a color close to your own you should be somewhat happy with the results.

another warning, the applcation of the second step will not be the best feeling and you may wish to stick your head in a bucket of ice (this may have just been for me since I used to change hair colors every month or so and this was back in 1980-84). Once you endure the burning ring of fire on your head you'll be all set.
