Nader Takes a Pie in the Face in California
By REUTERS

Filed at 8:11 p.m. ET

SAN FRANCISCO (Reuters) - California's political scene was looking more and more like a circus on Wednesday, when former Green Party presidential candidate Ralph Nader took a pie in the face during an appearance in San Francisco.

Nader was speaking at an event to endorse fellow Green Peter Camejo for California governor when a man ran into the room where he was speaking, forced a pie in his face, and made a quick exit.

Camejo is running for governor along with at least 246 others including actor Arnold Schwarzenegger who have filed to put their names on the ballot in an upcoming election to recall incumbent Democratic Gov. Gray Davis.

The unprecedented election, in which porn stars, has-been actors and many unknowns will appear on the ballot alongside serious politicians, has made California's political system the subject of worldwide attention and frequent ridicule.

Nader became a popular third party candidate during the 2000 U.S. presidential elections, but also fell out of favor with many liberals who came to view him as a spoiler who took votes from Democratic candidate Al Gore, helping Republican George W. Bush win the presidency by a razor-thin margin.

This is what he deserves!
I urge more Americans to pie the Greens. Big grin
They are living a utopian fantasy and with get nothing accomplished by putting candidates in close races tipping the victory in the Republican's favor.
The Greens can only do ONE thing:

Get
Republicans
Elected
Every
November

Well I agree with most of the Green Party platform but I am pragmatic as well.
I think there green on the outside and empty on the inside. There heart is in the right place but they have NO brains.
There are stll very bright people in the Democratic party fighting the good fight. The Greens are standing in the way of more Democrats getting elected in more conservative parts of the country.
Had Nader not ran in 2000, Gore would have won New Hampshire, Ohio as well as Florida.
We would have never had to worry about hanging chads, pregnant chads, etc...
Gore would have been our President and the U.S. would have more respect worldwide.

No, actually, far from. Anti-American BS existed in the time of Clinton, it would have simply continued. That EP-3 would still have collided with a Chinese fighter jet and forced to land in China with the crew held capitve, the economy would have continued its downward spiral, 9/11 had been in the works during the time of the Clinton administration (not saying Clinton is responsible, simply pointing out the time frame which coincidentally fell on the shift of the guy after Clinton), Iraq would have at least taken a heavy attack with Tomahawks.

As for the conservative parts of the country, they're conservative for a reason. If it wasn't for the Greens, they would have voted for the Republicans. You need to accept that there are people with different viewpoints than you.

My best friend of over 15 years was a Republican, He and his wife voted for Nader in 2000. I've done my job pulling him away from that 'born-again' crap and he is less conservative now thanks to me Big grin. It's still hard for him to vote Democrat. I am still working on him .  Smile

I meant Conservative points of view...this following statement sickens me:

My best friend of over 15 years was a Republican, He and his wife voted for Nader in 2000. I've done my job pulling him away from that 'born-again' crap and he is less conservative now thanks to me . It's still hard for him to vote Democrat. I am still working on him .

If you waste your time trying to change how your friends vote, then you need to get your priorities straight. Seems to me that you simply fed him propaganda. You would cry and whine if someone Conservative managed to sway a Democratic voter to his side. You would lash out with "Right-wing conspiracy, blah, blah, blah".

What's wrong with making a natural plan legal?
I am a Democrat and I favor legalizing marijuana.

Tobacco is a natural plant and it has killed millions. It should join marijuana as one of the targets of the ATF. What's worse about marijuana is that they are unfiltered, meaning pure smoke and carcinogens are going into the lungs. Not to mention the same second hand smoke as from Tobacco. Why would you be all for banning smoking in public areas, but for the legalization of Mary Jane? Worse still, that crap impairs a person's senses as bad/worse than alcohol. DUI deaths aren't always the result of alcohol, a growing number of them cite Pot.

That sentence alone proves to me that it's pointless in discussing politics with you.
Smoking pot in public is as dumb as cigarettes. Advocating the legalization of marijuana does NOT mean you advocate smoking it in common public places.
Do it at home or out in the woods or a beach so 2nd. hand smoke is not an issue.
Geeeezz!!!!!!!!!!!!

BTW, my friend is a very smart person who runs his own company. I just led him to light.  Smile

You overlooked some major arguments of mine. People smoke cigarettes at home. And they get cancer. People drink beer at home, then get behind the wheel and kill someone else. Pot, also impairs one's ability to operate heavy machinery.

BTW, my friend is a very smart person who runs his own company. I just led him to light.

Or leading a horse to your own farm. The "light" eh? Yeah, proves you have a problem with people who think differently from you. You know, Arnie is a self-confessed liberal on some points. He's pro-abortion for example. But then again, you being neither a fetus or a woman (of course, we don't know for sure  Big grin ) you probably wouldn't care. Do I agree with you? Evidently on a lot of things no. But I'm not gonna start sending GOP pamphlets to you.

Superfly,

You are condemning the Green's for having the stones to speak their minds and for standing up for their convictions and thus preventing the Democrats from Trojan Horsing the American public.

It is because of partisans like you that I stopped supporting (including volunteering for) Democrats a while ago. It seems like things have not changed that much sadly.

I'm actually surprised that Superfly does not vote for the Reds....err...Greens, their political platforms seem to be much more in line with his (although with the Greenys in office he'd have to get rid of his 70s American Crapmobile)  Big grin . Then again, voting Green is a complete slap in the face to the Democratic party, and their efforts to get elected.

Even though the Greens are full of soft-core Communists, I still support their efforts...its not like theyll win any seats in govt of any worth, and they help keep the Dems out of office! Big grin

Thank you Jcs17 for being the Conservative mirror image of Superfly with that very last comment of yours.

Alpha1 was right, Jcs17 and Superfly are the two extremes on this forum. One's a fascist, and the other is a Communist. Each have different ideologies, but a very similar style of operation in spreading their propaganda.

Please explain, what made my post so facist-sounding? Unlike many on these boards, I could care less about my respect rating. I care about my values as a conservative Republican and could care less what all of you incorrectly call me; "facist," "redneck," "hillbilly," "Nazi" among the favorites... Although I do suggest that people open a history book or two to discover that being a facist and being a Nazi have nothing to do with being a conservative Republican. I am staunchly pro-Israel...I guess that makes me a Nazi, eh. In fact, in some regards, Democrats have closer ties to facism that Republicans do.

I am not about to say something different than what I believe because someone intolerant of views unlike their own calls me names or says "I give Republicans a bad name..." Notice the common theme here, I dont care what you think of me, I dont care if you respect me or not....At least I speak whats on my mind.

Gore would have won New Hampshire Definitely not true. Even though New Hampshire is having an increasing amount of liberals moving in from Massachusetts, it is still a predominantly Republican state. Hell, I'm probably more proud of NH then my home state of Massachusetts!

N79969:

As I have said before, I agree with most of what the Greens stand for. However, I am a realist and I have a grip on reality. The Greens need to understand that they will never get any of their goals achieved by dividing the left/centrist vote.
True the Democratic Party is just as pro business as the Republican Party but the Democrats is more 'fair and balanced'  Big grin in representing business and workers.
The Greens have setback all chances of achieving any of there goals at least 30 years by running Ralph Nader. Think about it. An Al Gore Supreme Court appointed judge would be much more sympathetic then a W Bush appointee to the concerns of the environment, civil rights, protecting workers, etc...
Every time I mentioned this to a Green, they just sit there with a dumb look on their face.
I just see the Greens as privileged trust fund brats with a nihilistic mentality. They aren't looking at the big picture. None of the brats that voted for Nader will even feel the effects of Bush's policies because a lot of those brats have rich parents supporting them on getting there 6th. degree. None of these Greens really struggled or know what it's like being poor. It's no wonder Nader did terrible in the rural districts of the Deep South. Al Gore did best in Macon County Alabama with 87%. Does anyone want to guess why?  Insane
Macon County Alabama is MUCH poorer than San Francisco and they have much more important things to worry about than these silly vegans sitting around in coffee shops that pat themselves on the backs for voting for Nader.

Right wing third parties such as Right To Life and a few others disbanded and are getting their goals met through the Republican Party under the Bush regime. That's what the Greens need to do.

Ralph Nader couldn't even beat Bush in San Francisco!
Come on now! Nader got 13%, Bush got 14%. If they can't win here, where on earth can they win?  Insane

I too agree with a lot of what the green party says BUT, I wish they could see that a democrat would do the environment a lot better than a republican will. Old Ralph has done a lot of good things for the working class people. Corporate America will do anything to stop him...

Superfly,

I understand the practicality of your viewpoint. But I find it a bit disingenous. It seems that anyone with the mildest left-wing (or just non-republican) owes allegiance to the democrats. I think this is silly as those who are deemed are unpatriotic because they did not support the war in Iraq. There is room for disagreement. Perhaps all the true Democrats should throw their weight behind a guy like Nader and abandon the candidates put out by the party machine. That would create a real contest with real contrast in the general election.

Al Gore might have done well in Macon County, GA but he lost his home state. That is never a good sign.

Please explain, what made my post so facist-sounding? Unlike many on these boards, I could care less about my respect rating. I care about my values as a conservative Republican and could care less what all of you incorrectly call me; "facist," "redneck," "hillbilly," "Nazi" among the favorites... I am staunchly pro-Israel...I guess that makes me a Nazi, eh. In fact, in some regards, Democrats have closer ties to facism that Republicans do.

You're the complete brown noser to Dubya. I mean, you act as if he's above criticism. No president is. And I still wish McCain had won. If that makes me an "idiot" to put it in your words from chat so be it. I'm also against BOTH Israel and Palestine. The non-stop BS coming from both sides is what contributes to the ongoing war. Also, Israel has to be right now the BIGGEST welfare state ever. I believe in enforcing the gun control laws that we already have in addition to closing the remaining loopholes. I'm against the legalization of marijuana, but I want the banishment of Tobacco. I'm against most of the belligerency of the French, but do not deny the fact that Dubya was equally belligerent. I'm for the UN, so long as everyone is treated as equals and no one nation is above the other. In addition the UN should be about peace keeping, not about governing nations. I'm for abortions in the event of rape and incest, and believe that comprehensive Sex Ed, involving the teaching of both abstinence and contraception is the best solution to the problems of teenage pregnancy. Adoption should also remain an option. I'm for father's rights, but I'll be damned if a deadbeat dad gets away with what he does. I'm against affirmative action and see it not as just reverse racism as all the wags have it, but as detrimental to minorities in giving whites the wrong image about them. I think we attacked Iraq way too soon, and would have preferred to wait for UN approval...I also think that our war strategy was SEVERELY flawed. We publicized our war in the six months before the invasion so that there was no surprise, and if Saddam did have WMDs, he had plenty of time to evacuate them. I do not believe the BS that it was for Oil. I believe in saving Social Security because the people themselves DO work for it. After all, SS takes out from your paycheck, and you see that money later. I believe welfare should be limited to those who actually need it, and if anyone abuses it, should be forced to work it off. I believe that illegal immigrants should be deported, or at least, be notified to start filing papers to become citizens and thus pay taxes for living here. America is a NO FREE-LOADER zone. Dubya's tax cut was flawed in not cutting enough from the Middle Class and focusing too much on "trickle down" economics, which are effective only when the rich actually spend that extra cash. But in bad times, they will save that money...and reasonably so, because it's quite easy to blow it all and end up all the way back in the lower class tax bracket. The rich at the very least should have been encouraged to spend, but they haven't been. Republicans are supposed to be the party of fiscal responsibility, but I and many other Republicans have had to watch aghast as Dubya blew our surplus and sent us into a deep deficit.

I am not about to say something different than what I believe because someone intolerant of views unlike their own calls me names or says "I give Republicans a bad name..." Notice the common theme here, I don't care what you think of me, I dont care if you respect me or not....At least I speak whats on my mind.

I'm a Moderate Conservative Republican buddy. And if I'm labeled a liberal by you, and a right-wing nut by Superfly, I know that I'm right where I should be! The problem that you, Superfly, Sabena_690, Dc10guy, and others have is that I am free to think and feel as I choose! Not tow the line to either the Democrats and Republicans. As for my RR, that's more BS. This site is full of extreme liberals and extreme conservatives like you. A centrist is one of the most hated on this site. And I don't care what you, or any other user on A.net thinks of me. This is the internet, and I'll never meet anyone from here, so why get tripped up in it all? But hey, that's YOUR problem, not mine!
