DEL (German NHL) Begins!

Sat Sep 06, 2003 6:42 am

It began, and with a disaster for my home team the Hamburg Freezers.
They played mediocre, alsways shooting nowhere (not entirely accurate: their "shots" sometimes were perfect passes to players of the other team) and never really moving towards the puck. What a disgrace for the great team they were last season, loosing 2:4 against Augsburg, a team that just advanced from the second league.
I will stop going there if they continue to play like that, loosing is ok, it´s part of sports, but that was unacceptable!

Anyway, which team are you with this season? Who will advance to the play-offs?

Results of 1. day:
Adler Mannheim - Kassel Huskies 2:1 (1:0, 0:1, 1:0)

Eisbären Berlin - Wölfe Freiburg 8:2 (6:0, 1:1, 1:1) (note that 2 of Berlins top players are in jail in Sweden at the moment)

Hannover Scorpions - ERC Ingolstadt 1:2 (1:1, 0:0, 0:1)

Hamburg Freezers - Augsburger Panther 2:4 (0:2, 0:0, 2:2)  Angry but congrats to Augsburg anyway

Iserlohn Roosters - Frankfurt Lions 1:3 (0:0, 1:1, 0:2)

Nürnberg Ice Tigers - Kölner Haie 3:2 (0:1, 1:0, 1:1, 1:0) after penalty

I assume that the season ends awfully early in the year...  Sad I was hoping to catch some European hockey games when I head over to Europe in mid-March (the only place I am sure that I will go is Helsinki). I know both SM-Liiga and the Elitesieren both end in the beginning of March, hopefully I can catch some tournament/playoff games.  Big thumbs up

This year the playoffs began in mid-march and ended early april here in Germany. With the surprise champion Krefeld. I liked that. So with a bit of luck you might actually get to see some playoffs (if you can get tickets that is).
