Soda Machine Prices

Tue Sep 09, 2003 12:23 pm

I don't really think I've ever seen a soda machine price over $1. It seems like its a magic number. Not too many people are going to pay more than that for a soda on more than rare occasions. Prices over the last few years have steadily increased to $1, but they haven't gone past it.

Will there sooner or later be an increase past a dollar for sodas? I don't feel it'd be a good idea for the companies to do so. What else might they have up their sleeves besides a price increase to milk more money from consumers? Smaller bottles? Warmer drinks?

(ah, the wonders of the bored college mind)

Uh... they're $1.25 - $2.00 around here for one of those small bottles. Alternatively, you can get the cheap stuff at Walmart for 35 cents.  Smile

go to an amusement park, and they are $2.50 or something.

There are now machines that have sensors that increase the price when it's super hot out, and lower it when it's cold.

still $.25 for a can @ Costco though, but I gave up soda a long time ago.

I've paid US$2, C$3.50 and Euro 2 for a simple 330ml can of soda from hotel vending machines. Highway robbery, but still cheaper than a minibar!  Smile

Go to a movie theater...$2.50 would be a BARGAIN! You could buy 4 liters of any soda and still come out way ahead than paying what movie theaters charge for a small drink ($3.00 the last I saw)... Pissed

That's why I bring the hip flask with me. $3.00 is insane for pop, but an absolute steal for a tripple Jack and Coke  Smile

hey guys,

I have seen $3, $2.50.....all the way down to $1.25...

Let consider the costs that play a role in setting up these soda machine...

1. Electricity: The drinks need to be kept cold...24/7/365…

2. Labor: Someone has to deliver the drinks to the machine, take out the $$, etc...

3. Maintenance: Spare parts may be needed incase of break down or vandalism…

4. Rent: Renting out the space used to place the machines will cost the beverage company …

5. Advertising: Not too sure about this one, but when a soda machine has COCA COLA or PEPSI written all over it, it could be seen as a mini stand-up billboard that attracts numerous pass buyers.

Off course some prices demanded by these soda machines can be higher than the prices offered at hypermarkets or regular grocery stores...since the cost structure in hypermarkets/grocery stores is more spread out among the variety of other products they sell....

Cheers,

Wow. Maybe I'm living in my own little world or something. Coincidentally, a world where sodas cost no more than $1.00.

I need some sleep...

Lowest for a can around here (I mean, not the TrueValue kind of drink from the supermarket): 50 cents which of course in the little expensive world called airport goes up to 1.50.
About the 20OZ bottle, the lowest I've seen is 1.00. At the airport machine 2.50

KAL007-

to add a bit to that, Pepsi pays my school (the Universtiy of Oregon)
something around $90,000 a year to be the soft drink provider.

that's a lot of soda to sell......

Here in Australia you won't find a can of Coke for under $1.40 anywhere. Expect to pay $2.50 for a 300mL bottle too.

I just picked up three 12-packs of Coca Cola for US$9. at the local grocery (= .40/ ea. for a 12 oz/355mL can), and I'm entirely sure they were making a profit. Goes to illustrate above comments about additional costs (and inflated ripoffs) when purchasing individual portions at other outlets.

Our hotel (recent trip to Maryland) had Coke from the vending machine @ .75,
half the price of what I've seen locally in the Detroit area...Jack

They are making a hell of a profit on this stuff. The actually pop costs about a nickel. Its just a shot glass full of syrup mixed with tap water that's been carbonated. In restaurants, usually the carry-out cup costs the company more in overhead than the pop does. Our prices range from $0.50 (at work) to $1.00 (the airport) for a 12 oz. can of the good stuff. What pissed me off about the airport machines if that the display on them shows the 20 oz. bottles, but you get the 12 oz. can. Apparently, it pissed someone else off too because the last time I went, it was changed to a picture of a 12 oz. can.
