Al Queda: What Do They Want?

Thu Sep 11, 2003 2:24 pm

What exactly do these bastards want? What will make them stop their terrorist acts? Why did they bomb Bali?

Firstly, they are a very diverse group in many countries, not the James Bond style villains with OBL as a sort of Dr Evil mastermind as portrayed by the lazy, dumbed down media.
Basically, they seem to want a 'Islam Nation', free of the 'corruption' of the West, with an austere form of theocratic government.
While the US presence in Saudi may have been a rallying point, as well as the plight of the Palestinians, the core of what they want seems to be a revival of what they perceive of an Islamic golden age, before they were pushed back at the gates of Vienna 100's of years ago.
What they don't want is the freedoms of the West, forget what many commentators have said since Sept 11th, they don't give a flying one about having more shopping malls, consumer products and all the rest, thinking that is to be in denial, denial about the mistakes that allowed the US to target the most extreme Muslims for aid in fighting the USSR in Afghanistan, Reagan called these people, including a young OBL, 'new founding fathers'.
Why hit Bali? The club was full of Brits and Aussies, Indonesia is way too pro-western for them, so destabilize that nation too, well as a large body count was the intended effect, as were attacks against Europeans in places like Tunisia.
They thrive and recruit wherever they think Muslims are oppressed, be it Palestine, Checnya, Africa, Saudi Arabia, Indonesia, the Philippines, even Iraq under Saddam and now the US.

A few day ago, I heard some very disquieting things on German TV, interviews with people who do research on Islamism, terrorism etc.

They all seem to agree on some basic assumptions:

-El Qaida has been hit hard since 11/9, but it is definitely NOT getting weaker, especially their financing capabilities seem to be as efficient as ever.

-El Qaida has evolved from a "regular" terrorist organisation into a way of thinking, Muslims around the world who are poor or from whatever reason seek revenge against Western people/organisations etc. seek support from El Qaidam WITHOUT BEING MEMBERS OT EVEN GETTING TRAINING THERE, get their money and/or blueprints to build some bombs and then go on their suicidal killing missions on their own.

Casablanca and Bali seem to be examples for this really terrifying development.

Any thoughts on that?

A good look at where we are now, I think the last section is important, because that's where we are losing for sure;

GDB, you say they don't want freedoms, then you go on to say they 'thrive and recruit where Muslims are oppressed'. Which is it? Do they want freedom or oppression? Are you saying they want freedom to oppress?

I believe that they don't really know themselves what they want. It is very easy to blame the West for everything, but when they are enjoying a lot of things developed by the West that help raise their standard of living (electricity, refridgeration, medicine etc) they are just hypocritical. What they really want to do is to get off their backsides and start contributing to this world. If they are poor for example, what are they doing about it. America wasn't born rich. It has become that way through its own hard work. If some of these Muslims who are complaining employed the same attitudes they too will reap the rewards.

It appears that Al Queda has no problem in soliciting money. I suggest that instead of using it to killl inncoent people they would be better off using it to improve their lot.

They´ve made no secret of their desire for an open war between the "muslim world" and the "western world".

And it seems the Bush administration has perfectly played along to their plan so far. Recruiting is up, chaos is abundant and an ever-increasing number of muslims hate the west (and notably the USA) with a passion.

Ain´t it great!  Sad

They recruit like gangs, they take poor desperate people, give them structure and a sense of belonging. Then fill them with lies and hatred and tell them to kill, instead of killing for money they are killing for religion etc.

The problems of the Arab world are the results of their own woes, they find it easier to blame others for their short comings than themselves.

Kind of like the Nazis blaming the Jews for the dispar of Germany.

The failure of the Arab world is a cultural , social and political failure.

Cultural failure because of their inbred hatreds and naivity which allows for tyrants like Saddam of radicals like the Iranian Ayetollas to run things.

Social failures for failing to develop and evolve, treating Woman as second class creatures.

Political failures for the corrupt nature of so many politicians who put themselves ahead of their people.

OK Jetservice, they want the 'freedom' to oppress those within their orbit, ultimately to have an Islamic world, however many commentators since 2001 have claimed that they are driven by jealousy of the material comforts and social freedoms of the US.
Big mistake.
