High School Homecoming Traditions

Sun Sep 21, 2003 3:48 am

Every year around this time, high schools across America have their homecoming. My high school had theirs last night, quite a bit earlier than usual, but even so it was quite freakin cold.

Anyway, what are some of your high school's traditions for homecoming? For ours we have the usual homecoming coronation on Monday, then a school pep rally outside at our stadium on Thursday and the football game on Friday. During the game we all expect a streaker, which we had two last night. Last night we started some new stuff like crowd surfing which until last night, I thouhgt could only happen on flat surfaces, but was proved wrong as we had everyone getting carried right up and down the bleachers. And don't forget the TPing and Egging of peoples houses (I haven't heard any houses get Paintballed like last year yet).

So share some of your High Schools unique traditions.

TP'ing our rival coach's, quarterback's, etc. house, spraypainting our team's name on their football field, and other petty vandalism along the same lines

We used to get mums and garters that the guys and girls wear the day before the dance.. Also the girls take the guys to dinner on that Friday.

I don't think many schools, if any, in Canada (at least in Toronto) have this sort of thing... But that's not the point. What I always wanted to know, and this reminded me, is what exactly is a "pep rally"?

Hey USAirways, MSP here too! Apple Valley, MN. EASTVIEW HIGH SCHOOL. We're gonna kick the crap out of Chaska as I rip up their 'o-line.' I just do the guys night out after the dance with the girls, drop em' off after spendin' some time, then go and play cards and eat really good food.

At our school, elections to the court happened last week. The football game is Friday 10/3, dance is Saturday 10/4.

Maybe they'll have a new tradition....me not getting anybody (girl) to go with to the dance. Waited too long (start of the year) last year & didn't go (sick), this year doesn't look too good either. I still have two HC's to go...

JAT: A pep rally at our high school and Im assuming that it is somewhat similar in most other American high schools is where the whole school assembles and they show off the homecoming royalty, the football team captains, other fall sports captains and such.

Continental: This is the first year I think that Stillwater did not have a homecoming dance because out of 2,300 kids, only 60 showed up last year. We beat Moundsview though 35-6. When is Eastview's homecoming?

I grew up in Miami, FL. Went to Columbus HS. Theirs a suburb of Miami called Coral Gables that had some very nice concrete street sign markers (Coral Gables HS was also a regular HC opponent). We'd steal a bunch of Columbus Avenue signs from Coral Gables every year and leave them around our campus.

Our homecoming is 10/4. Game is night before, we are going to kill Chaska. I set a goal, 5 sacks. That's right FIVE. I am contemplating whether I should go to homecoming dance though. I can ask this hot girl with nice rack who I could get 100% sure since she already wants me, but I hate the whole dance thing.

I went to Casady School, a college private prep school. Ya know, the whole blue blazer and slacks sort of thing. We didn't have a homecoming parade or pep rallies. Don't know why, we just didn't.

My girlfriend just started a new tradition of having to work on homecoming night.....

I hope it doesn't last long, I don't have much time left!
