The big fuss is that Gibson has made a film that purportedly reflects his pre-Vatican II
belief system, and while making the film refused to entertain new evidence about the historical Jesus that Biblical scholars have unearthed. Apparently it also fails to make distinctions between "good Jews" and "bad Jews." Well, according to its critics, at least.
The proof of the pudding is in the eating I guess. So, I do intend to see it. I remember that many gay rights organizations made a big fuss that "BraveHeart" was homophobic. As a gay man, I have to disagree with that assertion. "BraveHeart" was lots of gore, and a lotta fun !
So how bad can the Gibson "Jesus" movie truly be? No worse than those gaudy technicolor Cecil B. DeMille extravaganzas. Which were enjoyable even if you didn't personally prescribe to the religious convictions held dear in the film.
