Do You Have Long Lunch Breaks?

Wed Sep 24, 2003 10:06 pm

Usually for me it's 45mins/1 hour, but there was a time when it had increased up to no less than 3.5 hours !!!

Now, it's back to normal (maybe a tad more than 1 hour), except for today (we went to the restaurant to say goodbye to a colleague who leaves the company tonight)

What about your lunch breaks ?

"1" hour for a lunch break, but if I leave my desk for that long, the message light on my phone is about ready to explode. Not worth leaving for an hour and then rushing to return messages, just usually relax at my desk for an hour.

I get a half hour, but it always turns into much more than that.  Big grin

My lunch break is as long as I damn well want it to be. Everyday I'm finished with my classes by 11!  Big thumbs up

It's up to me. usually I prefer not to take lunch as it wastes the time I could otherwise be productive. I usually get my secretary to go out and get me a sandwich and I'll eat that at my desk. Having said all that about productivity, I do spend more time on this website than is otherwise good for me! Big grin

Lunch break, what's that? I've probably had a lunch break maybe two dozen times in the 5 months I've been working at my current job, and most of those were in the first two weeks I worked there (I worked in our warehouse while waiting for my SIDA clearance). These days, luch consists of grabbing something out of the snack machine downstairs in between shops. The schedule I work makes having a true lunch not possible. My typical hours are M/Tu/F 5 am to around 1-2 pm (sometimes I'm off by noon) Saturday, 8 am-12pm (maybe 1 pm at the latest), and Sun 8 am-3 pm (maybe 4 pm at the latest). With nearly all resturants @ the airport serving breakfast until 10:30 am daily, I'm not wanting breakfast for lunch, so I usually just grab something out of the snack machine instead. If I get off before 1 pm, I'll go get a bite somewhere after work. Saturdays I don't even care about a lunch break, since I'm usually gone by Noon anyway. Sundays it depends on how things are. If I know I'm going to be sitting at the warehouse waiting for the stuff we take out Sunday afternoon, I'll grab something, otherwise, it's snack machine once again.

No real set lunch break, also, no real set work hours. If I am training, I know I need to be in the classroom. Usually, I get into my office around 7:30 and leave around 5:00. Sometimes lunch lasts an hour or so, sometimes I am cramming food into my mouth at my desk!

Depends on the work - it's very variable. Some days I could spend 10 hours without moving from the keyboard; other days there's barely anything in hand, and lunchbreaks get longer and longer...

Washington law requires at least one 30 minute un-paid break if an adult works over 5 hours. So relaxing to get a 30 minute lunch and two 10 minute breaks in a 9 hour shift in my line of work....  Insane

My summer job was a 7 or 8 hour shift and we always had well over 2-3 hours worth of breaks. Definitely the easiest job I'll ever have!
