Show On BBC Last Night

Fri Sep 26, 2003 5:59 pm

Hey guys,

I'm in Europe this week and was watching some show (caught the last 15 minutes) on the BBC last night where a family acts as commanders in a historical battle - last night it was the Romans v. the British.

They give orders to their troops and the battle unfolds in a computer simulation that was shown on the screen. Very cool.

Two questions:

1. What's the name of the show?
2. Is the computer game available for purchase?

Thanks,

It's called Time Commanders and is a pretty new programme, with only 3 or 4 broadcast so far. As for computer games, well I don't think anything specific has come out, but there is a long history of games like this, right back to Legionnaire on the early Atari machines.

Banco -

Thanks for the information. My question on the computer game is, "Are they using an off the shelf game on the program (if so, which one)? Or is the simulation they use proprietary?

They are using the game engine from Medieval Total War, which is available on PC

There is something simular on PBS....Or at least there used to be.

They took a bunch of air force guys stationed in England backdated their gear to Roman times.

There was also a show on I think C4 ,where a group of RAF cadets had to fly the dambusters raid using what was basicaly an updated version of MS flight simulator.
