I used to be BIG into showing horses. I started training locally when I was 5 years old. I went through several trainers before I was world calibre. Once I got world status, I switched to a trainer in Vermont. I lived in Oklahoma City, so I had a practice horse here at a local stables, and my good show horses in Vermont with my trainer, Peggy Alderman. She happens to be one of the best trainers in the US, and she has also served as a judge on the World Championship panel. I would fly up once a month for intense training sessions, lasting 3 days, on several different horses, then I would practice at home on my other horse.
This photo was taken during a photoshoot for the Saddlehorse Report and the International Morgan Connection, after a Regional Show in Denver.
This is me on my horse, "French Market." (Max for short). He was my high performance horse, which means he is the most athletic. We showed in English Pleasure, which is more demanding of the horse. Thus, when judging him, 75% was on performance, and 25% was on conformation, (how well the horse is put together). The other good show horse I showed was less athletic, but had beautiful conformation. So we showed in Classic English Pleasure, which was the performance catagory meant for this horse.

(Last time I checked, only the later show results are on the net, I think somewhere around 1997, unless UPHA (United Professional Horseman's Association, or the American Morgan Horse Association, AMHA has an updated database of past horseshow results.)

This is my trainer, Peggy Alderman with World Champion, "On Center Stage." This horse is one of my favorites. Owned by Grawood Farms, Kenton and Katrina Wood. She was the 1998-1999 World Champion Ladies Park Saddle. Now, she is a brood mare doing embryo transfers. $30,000 for a horses egg anyone?
This horse has won multiple Park Harness World Championships and is by far my most favorite horse, (well, second only to his father, Noble Flaire). This horse is owned by Herbert V. Kholer. Kholer, Wisconsin. You probably have sat on his toilets before, (Kholer Plumbing). Anyway, Herb sent to the horse to my trainer to be broken to saddle, and I got a chance to ride him while he was at the farm. This horse is a nut, but SO fun to ride. After he was broken to saddle, he sold to Barbra and Arthur Jones for $1.5 million.
Showing horses is a great hobby and I have met some interesting people. Clients of my trainer in Vermont were people such as David Rockefeller, John James (former star on "Dynasty", and currently on "As the World Turns" -I think that's the one he's on, though I'm not sure) and his wife Denise James, formerly Denise Coward who was Miss Australia some years ago, and she was in a 2nd rate flick back in the 80's.
Some other's that show horses are: Patrick Swaze, Bill Shatner, Michelle Scripps-McFarlan (Scripps Miramar), Wayne Newton (I actually watched his daughter, who is REALLY fat BTW, fall off her horse on her victory pass and make a big dent in the dirt), and a lot of other cool people.
