The Yankees Win.

Mon Oct 06, 2003 4:40 pm

Sorry, world. The Yankees won a playoff series. While you, the world, are bitching about it, notice no self-admiring home-run performances...no ries to the media when it looked tough... no bad-mouthing, back-talking, trash-spewing slack-ass attitude. Notice instead a classy team that creates its own victories; a team that is jealously written off in the division series year after year. A team that EARNS its victories and shuts up about them when they occur. Your next world series champion. Your New York Yankees

Ah yes, the Yankees.

The best team money can buy.

It's really pretty sad when the Yanks get more revenue from their TV contract than small market teams like the Twins spend on the entire teams salary.

Ahhh yes. The bitter anti-Yankee hosers must make their appearance. If the Chowds lose tonight, the Yankees could essentially win the World Series in 8 straight games.

You know, the toughest thing in the world has to be a Yankees fan. I mean, I pity the people. It's so tough followinga team that buys championships every year; it's tough followinga team that's ONLY won about 27 World Championships. It's so tough having to root for that every year. I mean, can anyone think of a worse thing than being a Yankee's fan? (dripping with sarcasm).

And Jcs, you're from the South, so how the hell are you a Yankee's fan? Or, are you one of these front-runners that you see all over the country who just root for the Yankees?

Alpha1, I'm VERY insulted. I AM NOT FROM THE SOUTH! I have lived in Chicago, Los Angeles, Pittsburgh, D.C., Connecticut, and only within the past six-seven years Atlanta and Dallas. I picked up all my rooting interests from when I was living in Connecticut (Islanders, Yankees, Giants)--and most of my family is from the Northeast, as well.

And out of all that, you root for the easiest team in the world to root for, the New York Yankees. It's as I guessed-a front-runner.

Rooting for the Yankees in 1988-1989 wasnt exactly the easiest thing to do. In fact, I started rooting for the Yankees just because my old man is a Mets fan.

And ALpha 1. We have established several times over Jcs used to live in Conn. and went to Yankee games as a kid...back when they sucked, so he gets a pass...unless he is being a dick, then the best way to piss him off is call him a bandwagon jumper.  Big grin

You guys have a point. The Yankees do buy their championships. On other teams, the players and organizational staffers are volunteers. Plus, you know that after every championship they win, they have a big fire sale, getting rid of all their best players.

Of course I have to make my apperance on this post being "the bitter anti-yankees hoser" that I am! I am a White Sox fan (being from Chicago) and I never said the Yankees suck, I just honestly dont like the organization and team. Afterall, isnt this what this website is about, people voicing their opinions?

The Yankees are more beatable this year than they have been in years. If anybody thinks they're going to breeze their way to another World Championship, they've got another thing coming.

Soriano, Boone, and Giambi have not done anything at the plate, Jeter's fielding is clearly down from before he hurt his shoulder, the bullpen is the worst Yankees bullpen in several years, and the starting pitching, while good, has consistenly gotten pounded this year by the Sox.

What would be more satisfying than watching the Boss go ballistic after the Sox knock 'em out? Answer: Watching the Boss go ballistic after the A's, with one third the Yankees' payroll, knock 'em out.

I think that this could be the year for the Yankees. After all, it has been too long since the city of New York has won a championship (over a thousand days)...

As a Yankees fan, I really think that this team will win the World Series. Is this the best Yankees team I have ever seen? No. But, this team has dealt with problems this year, and has bounced back from them. From Boomer's book, to being no-hit, to the August swoon, the Yankees have had some major issues. But, after each one, they have come back very strongly. I think that this is all a good sign for the Yankees, as they do have something going on that will give them that push to the World Championship.

A transplanted New Yorker in Boston (yes, I am sickened by how the Red Sox celebrate like its the end of the world for winning the WILD CARD),

KROC, why is it, that you have to make an issue of anything I say to Jcs anymore? Is it not OK that he defends himself, and he's old enough to look after himself. I always notice you're putting your nose in on any difference the two of us have. Now, why the hell is that?

And I'll still contend he's just on the eternal Yankee bandwagon.  Big grin

You just want to attack him anyway you can, and the fact you say And I'll still contend he's just on the eternal Yankee bandwagon. just strenghtens the 'bitter old man' image that you are prefecting on an internet website. Well done.

Oh, and I bet you will be on Lebron James nutsack once the NBA starts....WAIT, you all were when he was in high school. Silly me. Enjoy the gravy train.

KROC, I didn't give a shit about LeBron James in High School. He didn't go to my school; I couldn't stand the hype, and I can't stand the NBA. I'll be interested to see how he and the Cavs do, as a basketball fan, but other than that, you're as far off base as a runner about to be picked off of first by Pudge Rodriguez.

BTW Alpha 1 another great comment, on hating the Yanks

All this misplaced anger is kinda funny. Why is everyone pissed at the Yankees when they should be pissed at their own teams' management and ownership?

From Steinbrenner down, the Yankees want to win. And they do what is required to win. Isn't that what a competitive sport is about?

Other owners subscribe to the "Let's put the cheapest, worst team on the field that people will still pay to see" philosophy. They look at the season the way they'd look at a mutual fund.

They rip off their own fans.

Watch the Yankees and get your money's worth. Watch the Pirates or the Padres, for example, and seethe.

The best players? Like Karim Garcia? Like David Delucci (acquired in a trade for expensive RF Raul Mondesi)? Like Aaron Boone?

If there's one thing the Yankees have proven, it's that a great team makes its own best players via their farm system. Their most useful pickups since 1995 have been role players.

Good to see Wakefield get a win at Yankee Stadium...his first playoff win in 11 years. Looking forward to another classic Sox/Yanks series...but the Sox will prevail this time around....in 7 games probably.

Red Sox/Cubs, World Series, 2003: Does it get any better? Nahhh not really.

Pedro might give up a couple of runs to the Yankees because he's not quite at his best, but the way the Red Sox have been pounding the Yankees, I doubt it will do any good.

You really don't follow baseball that closely, do you? Based on a lot of the stuff you've said, I'm guessing not.

I was looking at the stats for the season series between New York and Boston, and the fact is that they're pretty evenly split. New York won 10 out of the 19 games, but Boston outscored New York 109-94. New York won most of the early games, then toward the end of the season, the Red Sox just wrecked Yankee pitching, including the two games in a row when they hung a 10-spot on the Yankees at Yankee Stadium. Indeed, those games were a beautiful thing to watch, even for this National Leaguer.

The fact is that this is the real World Series. Whoever wins this one is going to win it all.

DeltaSFO, you're right about the season split, which is why I was hoping the A's wouldn't choke. I'm just expecting the Yanks to knuckle up for the post season, the way we all know they are capable of doing. I hope it comes to pass.

Bigphylnyc, when most people say "hate", they're not talking about "hate" in it's purest, evil form; they're talking about an intense dislike, within the areana of sports, where it's about winning games, and losing games. When I say "I hate the Steelers", as a Cleveland Browns fan, it's in the context of wanting to beat the arch rival. I've admired the Steelers over the years, even though I hate to seem them beat the Browns. Same with the Yankees. I "hate" seeing them win all the time, but I admire their professionalism, and how classy most of them are.

If you can separate "hate", as in true loathing, and "hate", meaning you want to see your team kick the other team's collective asses, then I think you'll get it.  Smile

Zimmer shouldnt have gone after him like that, Whats a 72 year old man doing jumping/diving at somebody like that. Thats just stupid on his part, But i do agree Pedro shouldnt have pushed him to the ground. If its anybody I like on the Yankees team it would have to be Zimmer. I think he is a good guy.

Was Pedro supposed to just take a couple punches from a fat 72 year old guy charging after him?????

Karim Garcia and Jeff Nelson are more cowardly for beating a guy for rooting for the Red Sox IN BOSTON. I guess they can't take a little heat.

Exactly. As Grady Little said..."Isn't Zim a little to old to be carrying on in such a fashion?" Zim is lucky Pedro didn't Knock his ass out and only pushed him to the ground.

And I find it funny, that Yankee fan is all mad at Pedro, yet its that fat bastard Clemens that beaned Piazza in the dome on purpose just a few years back. Stop crying Yankee fan.

As much as I'd like to see a Sox-Cubs World Series, and as much as I'm impressed with Pedro's talent, he's a little fucking coward, imho. He's constantly instigating on the mound, and he gets away with it. Then he throws Zim to the ground, and the little fart then steps back behind his team mates.

Remember, he has a history, dating back to his days with the Dodgers, of being a head-hunter on the mound. He instigated this whole fiasco yesterday, and got away with it.

And, oh, Pedro? You lost the damn game, so go hide in your locker behind all your team mates now.

Go Cubbies and Sox.

Alpha 1. Pedro is no differant than Clemens. They both pitch inside. They both hit players. But I never saw such an out crying of Anti-Clemens support when he blasted Piazza on purpose in the head with a fast ball. Clemens took some, but he had tons of people stand up for him as well, which was crap.

As for Pete Martin the coward. Maybe so. He already has proven to be a sandwich, but come on now, Zim bumrushed him. He pushed him down. You know that once Yankee Player saw that, they were all going to go and try and kill him. Pete was just making sure he had people there to take on the Yankee conglomerate.
