No name calling and no fighting.

Just predictions.

Pretend it's football.

I'm betting that the CA Democratic Party is frantically trying to come up with ANY possible last-minute legal challenge to postpone the election, as any delay would likely hurt Schwarzenegger's chances of success.

However, assuming the election goes forth as planned (and I can't imagine why it won't):

RECALL VOTE:

Yes: 51%
No: 49%

WHOM TO REPLACE WITH:

Aaaaaaaahnold: 43%
Bustamonte: 31%
McClintock: 17%
Others: 9%

If those numbers for the recall stick, look for a heated "It's too close to call! We need a recount immediately!" push from the Democrats, who will try to tie this up for at least another two months in court challenges a-la Election 2000.

Election predictions...ratings will be similar to the superbowl...or the last episode of the X-files...9/11...cuz it is a tragedy for sure.

This whole thing is a joke to me, I'm not gonna rag on other Californian residents just because like others do, I dont think they are to blame (so to speak) for this, besides less than half will vote anyway so where is the fun in making fun?

I'll agree with Alpha on this one. As Arnie has shown his unwillingness to be specific, I think the voters will veto the recall. If not, and Arnie gets into the governership, I suspect I'll just have to deal with yet more Californians down the hill. Is not California already the state losing population, and business, at the greatest rate?

Regardless of anyone's predictions, who ever wins in today's election will win by a smaller number than those who want to keep Gray Davis as Governor.

All the above numbers shows Arnold winning under 45% and Gray Davis winning more than 45%.

IF Arnold becomes governor, it will be very easy to collect another 750,000 signatures to recall him within the next 3 months. Then a recall would be set on March 2, 2004 when Democrats in California pick the nominee for President and re-nominate Senator Barbara Boxer.

Prediction?

Arnold will win and Maria Shriver will become First Lady of California.

Social conservatives will have a heart attack that a pro-gay, pro-civil rights, pro-choice, pro-immigrant liberal is in the Governor's mansion in Sacramento.

Who needs the Dems when we have Arnold?

Exit polls are showing that Arnold will easily win...about 57% have voted pro-recall and 43% have voted for Arnold.

Social conservatives will have a heart attack that a pro-gay, pro-civil rights, pro-choice, pro-immigrant liberal is in the Governor's mansion in Sacramento.

I could care less, just as long as that bum Grey Davis is out of office, and the free-spending, racist Cruz Bustamante stays out. Arnold is not pro-immigrant, he seems to be middle of the road in that regard.

Actually poor Arnold will find it very difficult to get anything done with the ridiculous state of the California state constitution. However, when Arnold speaks, people at least listen. So, perhaps he may be able to alter the supermajority requirements that conservative referenda have created over the years.

I can predict GOP conservatives having a heart attack much in the same way they did when Governor Weld took office in Massachusetts in 1990.

I think that none of this matters because in about 5 months, there's going to be another recall. All the democrats have to do is get the requisite number of signatures on their recall initiative (about 10% of the number of voters who voted today) and then wait the requisite 75 days.

Though I am certainly no fan of Grey "out" Davis, the CA recall law is simply ridiculous. The man has committed no crime and was elected in a fair election. He deserves to serve out the balance of his term and then loose in a landslide.

But allowing a duly elected representative to be thrown out on the whims of voters will result in governmental paralysis because it's just going to go back and forth. Politicians will now literally spend all of their time campaigning and no time doing anything.

I know many of you will disagree, but these are just my thoughts.

Excellent post!

I will help to gather signatures to get rid of Arnold if he is elected.
Only 750,000 (approx.) is needed to get a recall on the ballot. That alone is the population of San Francisco.
If there is a recall on the March 2, 2004 election, Arnold will get his butt tossed out faster than he can say Hasta la vista.
That will be the Democratic Presidential primary election.

I don't like the recall process either but if this is the game the GOP want's to play, fine.

What makes you think he'll be so quick to be tossed out?

If he keeps his promises and manages to help the economy of the state turn around, it'll be a bit harder to get rid of him.

I've got faith in him. Not trying to be rude of course....I'm just curious....do you think he'll be terrible...because he's a republican? I admit to leaning to the right myself, but I'll vote for a liberal if I think they're doing or will do a good job. Sometimes it's about more than partisan lines.

But I'm asking this in the nicest way so please don't be offended, I am just curious why you think he'll be so awful and hated.

Not at all offended. Arnold is very popular among males under 20 years old.

For one, the problems facing California are facing all other 49 states.
Both legislatures are Democratic controlled and his allies in the legislature aren’t very powerful.
Arnold’s promises will not be meet because our state has a Constitution that bars the Governor from passing laws without the legislature’s approval.
If he becomes Governor, people will see very quickly that he is nothing but a W Bush puppet and (who is very unpopular here in CA) and will be very angry with him.
The problems facing California can't be solved by and actor with no experience.

I don't necessarily think that he'll get tossed out. I do think that there will be another recall election (given the low standard that needs to be met to call the election, its all but a foregone conclusion).

Whether or not he can effectively implement his "plan" remains to be seen.

However, regardless of what he does or doesn't accomplish, it is alway easier to criticize than to actually govern a state as diverse as CA.

My understanding is that the CA statehouse will remain in Democratic control. While I wish Arnold the best of luck, he's going to face a very uphill battle.

B757300, I was watching ABC News last night, and someone they interviewed seemed to think that no matter what happens, to expect lawsuits.
