Take Out @ Dine In Resturaunt - Tip Etiquette?

Wed Oct 08, 2003 11:42 pm

I've wondered about this for a while now. If you're just picking up food, is it proper to tip? Or no?

Any input welcome. Thanks.

No. Tipping is for waiter service. If your picking up, there is no waiter. If you have a few drinks at the bar while your waiting, then leave a small tip.

Some places do put a fee (usually 10%) on take out orders, some say that it's to compensate for lost revenue for the resturant, some say it's a tip for the server. Either way, I think it is an unfair thing to do.

I only tip for takeout service if the server has done something extra besides handing me a sack of food and charging me.
