People have been able to move around mechanically on the ground for centuries, even if you were pulled by a horse. The car just automated the process. No one was able to fly though and that's what people have wanted to do since they first saw a bird so the aeroplane has to be up there at the top (next to beer of course Big grin )

Newtonian Physics. Newton practically invented modern physics all by himself, and so much has spawned from it. That man was a genius.

Last time I checked, we didn't invent electricity. That falls in the same category as weather and gravity... we just use it to your advantage.

Glasses, because I couldn't read now without them and couldn't stay in contact with you.

Around 1000AD, the first vision aid was invented (inventor unknown) called a reading stone, which was a glass sphere that was laid on top of the material to be read that to magnified the letters. Around 1284 in Italy, Salvino D'Armate is credited with inventing the first wearable eye glasses. Picture of a reproduction copied from an original pair that dates to the mid-1400's.

And of course, for those with a brain, the printing press is the most important invention ever.

I cannot live without books to read. The rest is pure comfort and wasting time, including the very computer I use now, which means nothing.

ELECTRICITY, hands down; without it, 99% of our lives would cease to exist.

Sleekjet,

I worked for Dish Network. Those PVR's are a major piece of shit. Dendryte growth in some of the chips... Constant Signal problems/pixelling. Also, Dish Network is one big piece of crap as well.

I think I would classify electricity as a discovery. Not an invention. It was always there. I would say that anything that allows us to manipulate or utilize electricity would be an "invention".

Sort of like...nobody "invented" America. It was "dicovered". But...someone "invented" advertising, which manipulates America...
