Anyone Does Karate Here?

Tue Nov 18, 2003 4:30 am

Hi all,

I would like to know if anyone's hobby here on airliners.net is karate. Are you practicing shotokan, kyokushin karate or any other style ?

I have been doing kuokushin karate for more than 11 years now.

Thanks for your replies,

SN-A330

2nd degree black belt in Shotokan, though I haven't practiced it for years.

Orange belt in both Jiu Jitsu and Kenpo, but haven't practiced either for quite some time.

@ Jared: second degree black belt at your age ? That's very young. How do you call a second degree black belt in shotokan ?

I don't do karate, but I can break a toilet seat in two with my ass. Also, I've always had a thing for Ralph Macchio.

I have been doing Go-Kan-Ryu karate since the beginning of the year, and would have graded for my orange belt last month, except I was on vacation overseas.... so grading will probably now be in December. Last night was my first night back after 6 weeks, so I'm a bit sore this morning. But I love karate and it is a great sport for enjoyment and keeping fit.
Cheers

I have a gold belt with two stripes, in Tae Kwon Do. I made the rank more than sixteen years ago. I can still do most of the moves, but their effectiveness would be questionable at best.

PS you think gold belt is high, you're wrong. It's the second rank, above beginner/novice. I have the stripes because I couldn't pass all of the orange belt tests, but passed two of them (meditation and sparring.)

3rd degree balck best in Nam Pai Chuan King Fu - did Shotokan Karate as a kid in Australia. Used to do Muay Thai but found that competing in kickboxing tournaments at the weekend and then appearing at client meetings on monday with balck eyes wasn't ideal - plus kickboxing gave me the worst moment of my life when I was in a semi final against my friend and ended up paralysing him  Sad Albeit he recovered a couple of weeks after.
I used to think the brain is the most fascinating part of my body. But, hey, who is telling me that?

I practice Shotokan karatedo, that's not a sport, thought it's also a physical activity. I practiced a bit of Wado-ryu too.
I'll try to have the 1st dan in March.

By the way, I have the luck to have as head of my club probably the better expert in the world of real Karatedo (no competition, no bullshit, no useless pride, no wood breaking of my ass, just efficiency and the way ... )
