Israel Pulls Doomed UN Resolution

Thu Nov 27, 2003 10:27 pm

"Israel has withdrawn its first United Nations draft resolution in nearly 30 years in the face of strong opposition.
The Israeli draft, which called for the protection of Israeli children from terrorism, mirrored one on Palestinian children passed earlier this month.

But mostly Arab opponents of the text introduced changes Israel could not accept, ambassador Dan Gillerman said.

He said the UN was telling Israeli children "that your lives are worth less than Palestinian children".

"Perhaps someone can explain to me why the hundreds of Israeli children killed or maimed in brutal terrorist attacks deserve less sympathy and attention," the Israeli ambassador said. "

Quite typical of the U.N. to miss such an occasion. Doesn't surprise me one bit.

What i disagree with is while i do not support all of israels policies i find it hard to accept that the un can attack israel for accidentally killing arab children but when arab terrorists aided and abieted by an arab regime kill children they do not attack them.

you cannot be that one sided.

more propaganda of israel against the U.N.
why? because the U.N. makes unbiased demands that includes a palestine state in the green line borders. that heavily collides with the current land grab politics of sharon. while the control of the palestine government over the terror groups that sometimes spawn from syria is not confirmable, it can be said for certain that israel has control over its military which carries out attacks on civillians on a daily basis. now if the palestinian people had their own country that would change alot in respect to them, but as long as they are hunted in their own country, cant really blame them for rising up and be insurgents in general, even though surely some extremist offsprings go over the line and attack civillian installations and schools(however the line is rather hard to draw since almost every israeli citizen was once in the military and is still in the draftable reserves usually).

Zak,

All that you said is absolutely irrelevant. How does all that relate to the U.N. simply endorsing a resolution which condemns intentional attacks on children? That's all that was asked for. It was a test, and the U.N. flunked it.
