Dunkin' Or Krispy....

Sat Nov 29, 2003 2:42 pm

The last Dunkin Donut shop closed here in Denver over the summer. Krispy Kremes are beginning to sprout up...

If you had both, side by side, which would get your money?

Me, I grew up on Dunkin's.....but they seem to be disappearing fast. I just don't like the selection at K.K's... Anyone feel the same?

Dunkin Donuts are sprouting up EVERYWHERE in New Jersey... there are tons of them.

However... I prefer neither. Never been a fan of sweets.

Tim Hortons

All others can fight for second place.

I prefer the denser more filling Dunkin' Donuts to the light and empty Krispy Kremes myself.

Omigod, like, you didn't touch that subject!  Wow!

Lemme tell ya, Dunkin' or Sunny donuts are great. I like fluffy big donuts that are fresh, cold, and soft. Mainly the fruit filled, otherwise glazed.

Now them Krispy Kream's are so DISGUSTINGLY sweet, like there is more sugar than bread, its stupid! It's just gooey and really skinny and drips everywhere and I'm like "what the hell, why are they warm, like i picked up some small intestine or sumpin"

I think it is weird to see and individual eating a KK donut with a fork and knife! IT'S NOT A PIE, puto!  Insane

Here is Southwest Texas we have Shipley's...real donut lovers will choose Shipley's (or the very local mom and pop shops) over KKs.

We have no DDs anymore...

Contrary to the popular opinion on this thread, I prefer Krispy Kreme to Dunkin' Donuts. And remember, there is a Dunkin' Donuts on every corner here in Boston; there is one Krispy Kreme establishment in the entire metro area. Still, I prefer Krispy Kreme, but more often than not, convienience outwieghs preference, and I drive the 2-3 min to Dunkin' Donuts, rather than the 15 to Krispy Kreme.

As far as the trans-fat thing goes, I think it's ok to have a donut every once in a while. I don't eat donuts that often, but they are a nice treat sometimes.

KK rules - though I've never even heard of Tim Horton's. Where are they located?

BTW - did KK open a branch in Harrods recently? How's it doing?

I am a KK fan. I go to DD most of the time, simply because my town of about 25000 has 5 DDs, and the nearest KK is down in Medford, MA, which is about a 30 minute drive. I find KK to be of a much-higher quality than DD though, and when I need to get a bunch of doughnuts for something (tailgates, parties, etc.), KK is my stop.

Krispy Kreme everytime over Dunkin' Donuts. It is really hard to compare the two, as they are two different doughnut types. KK uses a yeast-based recipe, which gives the doughnut a lighter texture; DD uses a cake-based recipe, which yield doughnuts which are denser and have a cake texture. They recently reopened the KK near where I lived, they tore down the building and put in a newer one, and it is quite nice. They offer some additional coffee drinks, and have an incredible doughnut selection (the NY cheesecake filled one is the best!). Plus they have "The Doughnut Theatre", where you can watch the entire doughnut making process. I could watch that for an hour and still not get bored.

Dunkin' Donuts by far, I like them because they are nice and big. Although I love Krispy Kreme donuts when they are hot.

You got that right Jeff..!! Nothing against Starbucks, heck I got a pot brewing right now..but when I was with the airline and we made a 3am coffee run, it was Dunkin Dognuts. If I remember right you have simple choices too...... Regular or DeCaf....Regular, French Roast and Hazelnut...no fooh fooh flavors there..!!

Rolling Pin donuts still get sold to quite a few stores I believe. My daddio is the national sales manager for them, or was at one time. Don't know what he's regulated to now, but he was the one who made the origional multimillion deal with Albertsons.

Tim Hortons is a major Canadian chain of coffee shops based in Oakville, Ontario, Canada. They were however bought out by Wendy's and are now an American company.

Depends what I'm craving - if it's glazed, KK gets my money hands down. There's no way you can beat a glazed Krispy Kreme when the "Hot Donuts NOW" light is on. If I want a filled donut, I'll go to Dunkin for a Bavarian Kreme, Apple & Spice, or Raspberry Jelly filled.

Given the choices, Dunkin every time. I hate all the sickly frosting on the KrispyKreme's. Locks the grease in as well.

But given a choice....Tim Hortons by a mile!!

There used to be a mom & pop Cuban bakery near MIA in Miami Springs (for those who remember, on Curtiss Parkway in the same strip mall as Grace's Deli) that served, what we at Arrow Air used to call "707 nose tires". They were freshly-cooked, HUGE cinnamon cake donuts that just melted in your mouth. No KK or DD donuts do that!

Try Lamar's, I believe that they have several locations in the Denver area. The donuts are huge, about 3 times the size of a KK or DD. Ray Lamar the founder has been making donuts since the 1930's. Jay Leno had him on the Tonight Show a few years back. I love the Cinnamon Twist Long John, it's about 16 inches long and has just the right combination of cinnamon and sugar. Cops voted Lamars the best donut in Denver, Kansas City, and Springfield MO according to the Travel Channel.

I think that it's kinda funny that the first Krispy Kreme outlet in the UK is going to be at Harrods of all places.
