Could You Translate This From Italian?

Sat Dec 06, 2003 10:23 am

Well, not exacly translate, but tell the differences. I've downloaded an Italian song (before someone will start bashing me - it's not illegal, because song, according to website, is older than 50 years) recently and at the site of download two lyrics were given, both are very close, but not the same. It seems in the song second lyrics are used, although I am not quite sure. I don't know Italian, but probably someone who does would be able to tell the differences between these two lyrics? Are they two variants of the song? Same song in different dialects/languages?

Here are both lyrics:
1 variant:

FACETTA NERA

Si mò dall' artipiano guardi er mare,
Moretta che sei schiava fra le schiave;
Vedrai come in sogno tante nave
E un tricolore sventola pé te!

Facetta Nera
Bell' abbissina
Aspetta e spera
Che già l'ora s'avvicina!
Quando staremo
Vicino a te
Noi te daremo
Un' altra legge e un altro Re!

La legge nostra è schiavitù d'amore
Ma libbertà di vita e di pensiere
Vendicheremo noi Camice Nere
L'Eroi caduti e libberamo te!

Facetta Nera
Bell' abbissina
Aspetta e spera
Che già l'ora s'avvicina!
Quando staremo
Vicino a te
Noi te daremo
Un' altra legge e un altro Re!

Facetta Nera, piccola abbissina
Te porteremo a Roma libberata
Dar sole nostro tu sarai baciata!
Starai in Camicia Nera, pure te!

Facetta Nera
Sarai Romana
E pé bandiera
Tu ciavrai quella italiana
Noi marceremo
Insieme a te
E sfileremo avanti ar Duce,
E avanti ar Re

2 variant:

FACCETTA NERA

Se tu dall'altipiano guardi il mare,
Moretta che sei schiava fra gli schiavi,
Vedrai come in un sogno tante navi
E un tricolore sventolar per te.

Faccetta nera,
Bell'abissina
Aspetta e spera
Che già l'ora si avvicina!
quando saremo
Insieme a te,
noi ti daremo
Un'altra legge è un altro Re.

La legge nostra è schiavitù d'amore,
il nostro motto è LIBERTÀ e DOVERE,
vendicheremo noi CAMICIE NERE,
Gli eroi caduti liberando te!

Faccetta nera,
Bell'abissina
Aspetta e spera
Che già l'ora si avvicina!
quando saremo
Insieme a te,
noi ti daremo
Un'altra legge è un altro Re.

Faccetta nera, piccola abissina,
ti porteremo a Roma, liberata.
Dal sole nostro tu sarai baciata,
Sarai in Camicia Nera pure tu.

Faccetta nera,
Sarai Romana
La tua bandiera
Sarà sol quella italiana!
Noi marceremo
Insieme a te
E sfileremo avanti al DUCE
E avanti al Re!

Thanks for help

Thank you, Big777jet.

However, I couldn't get the answer from these translations, because they seem to differ only by the fact that in one variant some words aren't translated, in second - other words. I believe this could be because of the fact song was written in 1935, so probably some words were spelled differently then... Now I tend to think these are two different dialects of Italian, however, I would like if some Italian would confirm or deny this

EDIT:
Didn't seen the last reply while writing this

This song was written during the fascism for obvious propaganda... just to give you an idea of the lyrics, I'll translate just the first strophe:

Se tu dall'altipiano guardi il mare,
Moretta che sei schiava fra gli schiavi,
Vedrai come in un sogno tante navi
E un tricolore sventolar per te.

If you, from the plateau, look at the sea
black girl who are slave among the slaves,
You'll see, like in a dream, many ships
And an Italian flag (tricolore) wave for you

It's referring to the former and ridiculous Italian "African empire", with evident racist references...
Anyway, the difference is that the forst one is written in dialectal Italian (from Rome) and the second in Italian. The shameful meaning of both song is the same.

Thanks for help DaV, I really appreaciate it.

I am now trying to create a CD of early XX age European songs, which is why I downloaded this one. It's melody however is quite good and seems like tango, not military march...
