No More Harald Schmidt Show

Tue Dec 09, 2003 6:36 am

Today is a sad day for German TV.

After 8 years of late-night comedy, the Harald Schmidt Show will end on the 23.12.2003.

At least for me the show always was a nice end for a working day and certainly a highlight in the German TV program.

Now all we have is the Harald Schmidt für Arme, Stefan Raab and his proll show :/

I agree absolutely with Racko, today is really a sad day for the German TV. I really enjoyed Harald Schmidt's shows and I can't understand this decision. I also can't understand that they switched from four to five weekly shows a while ago, but suddenly they announced the complete end of the show.

The alternatives to the Harald Schmidt Show are TV Total and JBK, I will certainly not watch Raab's foolish show and Kerner's talk show is only worth a look when he invited interesting guests.

Is it just my imagination or was the guy really trying to be like David Letterman (his facial expressions, his mannerisms, even the show's set)?

He also did some awful commercials for a brand of decaf coffee...

Anyway, it's always sad to see a television legend go, and he was certainly a mainstay of German television. BTW, who will replace him? I hope Sat.1 considers a late-night newsmagazine -- something like RTL's Nachtjournal.

It´s good that he is going now because he has only been a parasite for many years, the bigger the scandals the more he sucked out. He was worthless in the end.

Yes PHX that is exactly the guy we are talking about...and the commercial was great ("Geschmackserhoehung"  Big grin). And as I know Letterman, too, I can tell you that Schmidt was way better, his jokes funnier and definitely more tasteless and without any taboos.

Indeed a sad day...and btw he is even a fan of VfB Stuttgart, a big one, coming from a smaller town close to Stuttgart.
I know it's only VfB but I like it!

i agree with andreas there. he picked up the letterman concept but he changed it over time to a concept that only appears to be similar but is inherently different. for example him incorporating the audience in almost every show, or the heavy involement of other people who work in the show like manuel, suzana, helmut and sven. i 100% share the opinion that he is way better then letterman or any other latenighte show. he always did stuff that noone had done before, sometimes it wasnt good, like his recent show from the river, but then he himself is the one who made most fun of it. or the show that was in french, that was hilarious too.
i hope he will start doing a show on another station, after all it was the show with the most prizes awarded on german tv.

His show was IMO the only good reason to watch SAT1. The rest of their program is a real insult to any intelligent being (so they should get great ratings now).

Well, we still got Stefan Raab - who goes to show that you only have to appeal to the lowest common denominator to be successful.

A while back, I met a woman who said she liked Stefan Raab. That was reason enough to immediately loose interest in her.

Schmidt was o.k., quality varied greatly (the day out, cruising down river Rhine was b-o-r-i-n-g), but Suzanna (?) always looked cute.

What a shock! I couldn't believe the news about ending the show yesterday. There's no genius like Harald on German TV, if he leaves there's one major reason not watch TV any more after 23.00...how will my days end from 23.12.??? Help needed!  Confused

I would be very interested in knowing the real and definite reason. I cannot believe he needs a creative break...sounds like a typical politician excuse. Any ideas?

Norbert, I just love your smilies

Appreciated, thank you. Big grin

...may I call you *censored*...?

Only if you are actually a good looking woman ... just like Suzana. Big grin

Udo, rumors say it has got something to do with pink-slipping a high-ranked Sat1 employee who was a good friend of Schmidt.

Here's a best-of with some of my favorite phrases of the last time (taken from a longer best-of at FAZ.NET):

„Burger King in Bagdad weltweit erfolgreichste Filiale - monatlich 500.000 Dollar Umsatz.

„Meine lieben Landwirte, keine Angst! BSE kann nicht durch Geschlechtsverkehr übertragen werden.“

11 shows to go  Sad
Sat.1 plans a new late-night show by the way, to replace the HSS. Let's hope another channel grabs Schmidt, even though I can't see him going to RTL and for ARD or ZDF he's probably too expensive.

PHX-LJU, do you get German TV in the US?

Of course I'm good looking, blindingly good as a matter of fact (plus: insert here a little puke smilie, if you find one!), but I guess a sexchange op would be too much just for being allowed to call you Nobby Big grin Big grin Big grin

Hmmm Stefan Raab, *argh* insert here many many many big puke smilies!

god forbid, koschwitz is SOOO BOORING. que horror!

Racko asked:

"PHX-LJU, do you get German TV in the US?"

No, I watch it when I'm in Slovenia. Practically all of the German networks are available on cable there.

In the US, only Deutsche Welle TV has a relatively wide reach.

I think the only one who could come close to Schmidt would be a drunk U. Wickert. I'd definately watch that show! Big grin
Or how about Norbert Blüm on 5 coffees???
