Yeah, nice list for the kiddies, really, now one for the adults among us:

Scariest one: Evil Dead I by Sam Raimi, a classic then, and even now, absolutely great, and if you need an instrument to get the lady/boy at your side to grab you, that's the one!

Most disgusting one: Nekromantik by Berlin director Joerg Buttgereit *BAH*!!

and the funniest one: Of course one of my all-time favorites From Dusk Till Dawn"...pu§§y, pu§§y, pu§§y... ROFLMFAO!!!!

I'm speaking of classics which have stood the test of time...

...you're speaking of Salma Hayek's tiddies and cheap gore effects that no one will remember in ten years. 'nuff said  Big grin

I saw it...not bad (it's English, though!), certainly not boring, sort of a zombie movie but not quite, effects are gory but not excessive (thank God), pretty disturbing in many scenes. Overall: See it, better than most horror movies, which doesn't say much, of course, but definitely not a classic like Evil Dead.

The Exorcist is the all-time best horror movie.

I'm a horror movie buff

1. Nightmare on Elm Street (Johnny Depp's death is one of the coolest murder scenes in horror movies)
2. Halloween
3. Friday the 13th (Besty Palmer, come on she is awesome)
4. The Exorcist
5. The Shinning
6. Scream (only because it revived slasher movies, and Wes Craven did it, the slasher movies that followed blew big time)
7. The Blob (because in the 50's it was one of the scariest movies of all time)
8. Rosemary's Baby
9. Jaws
10. I don't know #10, ask me in 10 years.

Exorcist is my favorite.

The Friday 13th, Nightmare series I enjoy, but not as horror films. I see them as comedy. When I was in university, we would rate each killing for originality and effect, from 1-10, and shout out our scores in the theater. I think the only 10 I gave was one where Jason had a victim in a big sack and splattered her against a tree. I loved it!

28 Days Later is a scary movie - although I found it to be more like a thriller. Anyway.

Rosemarys Baby is definitly a weird weird movie - but very effective as a scary one.

However I have never been as seriously scared in a movie theatre than I was when I saw "The Ring". That whole opening scene nearly negated the use of fresh underwear.

Exorcist - definitly.

"BLACK CHRISTMAS" is my favorite.

It was made in the 70's and is the first horror movie that I'm aware of where you hear the words .... get out of the house, the phone calls are coming from inside the house!

The "EVIL DEAD" is a great movie (kinda funny too). I've never seen a girl have sex with a tree branch in the woods before!

Some others are ....

The AMITYVILLE HORROR
The OMEN
The OTHER (not to many people know it)
The CREATURE FROM THE BLACK LAGOON (it's old and worth a laugh)

My vote goes to the original Halloween.

AMityville Horror is definitely up on the list. (the house is only 15 minutes from here .  Smile

But Freddy in Nightmare???? C'mon, that isn't scary, is it??? That is simply funny, especially with all of Freddy's one liners.

Now

Halloween

is some good stuff. Nothing like running away from Michael at top speed and he STILL catches up with you.

I am not really a "scary/slasher/horror" movie fan, but I have to stick my vote in for "The Exorcist" also.

There are a few movies that have "scary" or "heart-stopping" parts in them but may not be a totally scary movie. One recent movie in particular I can think of is "The Ring". When the girl's mother opens the closet and finds her dead... and at the end when the other "creature-girl" climbs out of the well..
For some reason that just gave me chills.

The Ring is quite scary, but only the original Japanese version (there are 3 rings - Ring 0, Ring 1 and Ring 2 - you need to see them all). Also, a Honh Kong horror flick called 'The Eye' by the Pang brothers is pretty scary in places.

The only three movies that really made me "jump in seat" were "Psycho", "Jaws" and "Alien". Yeah, there were a lot of other "goodies", but you sort of knew what to expect. Regards...Jack

Isn't "The Eye" made by a pair of brothers from Thailand? I saw a review of this a while ago, and I seem to remember that they mentioned Thailand. On the other hand, it could have been the setting of the movie.

As for the Exorcist, it's still ranking as one of my favourite scary movies. Also, Psycho (the original mind you) is a classic.

I don't give much for remakes - are there any examples of a worthy remake of a Asian scary movie?

Godzilla, from a few years back, was great so far as effects/cinematics go...

The acting, however, was absolutely horrid; and many fans were upset with how much they altered Gogira (i.e., making it hermaphroditic, taking away radioactive fire-breath, etc)

CPH-R very close - the Oxide brothers are Thai-Hong Kong and some of the film is set in Chiang Mai in Northern Thailand although most is in Hong Kong. By the way, the Pang Brothers also directed 'Bangkok Dangerous' which is a Thai action film and probably one of the greatest 5 action films of all time with a superb ending.

'Scream 1' and 'I know what you did last summer 2' both freaked me out! 'Silence of the Lambs' was good too. I don't watch horror movies because of those three. I can sit through Haloween and Nightmare on Elm Street simply becuase they are pure fantasy. The writing and what is left to the imagination is what makes a good horror film, IMO.

The Blair Witch Project is definately the No. 1 of all time. Nothing has paralleled it since, before, and probably nothing in the future will either.

Scariest Movie moment: In Resident Evil when the woman/zombie in the yellow liquid opened her eyes.

Scariest Movie: probably the Event Horizon and The Exorcist. Event Horizon deprived me of sleep for many weeks. I stayed away from horror movies for more than a year after it, then I saw Stigmata and The Exorcist and stayed away some more, then I started watching horror movies again.

Event Horizon was VERY scary. I saw it when I was 13 in the theatre (I looked older) I've seen it 3x's since, some parts still freak me out

(Sam Neil's wife, topless with the black eye balls, when she gouges his out..)

The end also...

I have trouble watching Sam Neil movies now.
