Ballet Really Isn't That Bad!

Tue Dec 16, 2003 3:36 pm

On Saturday night, I was reluctantly dragged to Queensland Ballet's 'Tales of the Unexpected'. After having to watch the Australian Ballet's 'Romeo and Juliet' in Brisbane, I thought I was going to be in for one long, boring night.

I was wrong

Tales of the Unexpected was fantastic and wasn't boring at all. It was very contemporary and all the mimed sex/violence scenes literally kept me on the edge of my seat.

I might even consider watching more in the future, as long as they're not classical. I cannot begin to understand what the heck they're doing on stage sometimes in a classical ballet.

Any comments?

JAL777 it's not funny at all. (Hits "Suggest Deletion" button for the first time)

QFA glad you enjoyed it. The way my youngest boy is going with his ballet he just might be in the Queensland Ballet in a few years time!

I thoguth it was funny. It's not really offensieve unless you're a tightass, so if you dont find it funy, jsut move along and read the other posts.

I was going to go even further with a gay joke, and shit, I wish I got invovled in ballet when I was yougner too. It's jsut a fun opportunity for a poke at fun. That's all.

I always thought it slightly odd that back in the '80's (OK, issues have changed perspectives now) people would rave about Michael Jackson's dancing but sneer at ballet. Ballet is wonderful, evocative, athletically impressive and set to marvellous music.

Of course, sometimes people don't like it, that's allowed, but often they've never been, and so just show how narrowminded they are.

I think it's very sad. Maybe one day we'll get past the "it's gay" thing.

Hey! My fiancee's name is Nancy! (does that make me a Nancy-boy?)

Got my yearly fill of the "Nutcracker" on Saturday. Anyway, it was good, and I love ballet and classical music. I think appreciation of fine arts is key for anyone's intelligence.
