Simpsons Drawn In Korea?

Wed Dec 17, 2003 10:10 am

I recently attended a hilarious lecture by Mike Reiss, a writer for the Simpsons. He told us that the Simpsons were actually drawn in Korea, not any of the well-known guys. Anyone else know that? I think it's quite comical, as they satirized it in an episode, when they had a bunch of asians drawing with the soldier with the gun to the back of their heads! Haha! I was quite amazed!

Korean only draw the fill-ins. The important sketches are done in US, and the rest needed to make the characters move are done in Korea. I heard they moved to 'all-computer' as of last year (or year before), so I'm unsure what role Koreans play in making the cartoon anymore.

Anyone know why Korea?

I doubt a professional animator's salary is all that much different.

The increasing use of Flash programmed animation and the like is seeing increased internationalisation of this industry.

"Quads" for example is created jointly here in Perth, Australia and Toronto, Canada with the files uploaded to a central server at the end of the working day in each country so the other country can then download and work on them during their day.

btw I'm sure Quads is only shown on Australian & Canadian TV, it would be even too much for English viewers. This is the original creator's website
and here is a rundown of this year's episodes
