Weirdest Advertising Space

Mon Dec 22, 2003 6:52 am

we all know companies will do anything to get their name out to the public, and sometimes they use some drastic measures. what is the weirdest way you have seen a company use space to advertise?

I always thought the "pay someone lots of money to tattoo your logo on their forehead" idea was kind of weird.

I wouldn't call it weird, but I like the airplanes that tow those big a$$ banners with advertisments over the beach and such.

Those ads above the urinals or on the back of a toilet stall door kind of force you to look at the ad since it is right infront of your face.

The stupidest thing is when they drive those billboard trucks around in the city (sometimes two in a row). As if there isn't enough traffic and pollution already!

I liked towing those big banners behind airplanes  Smile

Two seasons ago, while I was towing around Atlantic City, I looked up and saw what seemed to be 5 sets of contrails, evenly spaced, moving south along the Jersey Shore, cutting in and out. It was really odd, and I couldn't figure out WTF it was. When we crossed each other's paths (some where around Brigantine) I saw what they were- 5 planes of some kind (they were too high for me to see, somewhere around 7-10,000') were flying in formation, cutting their smoke in and out to spell out, dot-matrix style "VANILLA COKE VANILLA COKE..." down the entire shore! I thought that was pretty cool.

I know all of you on this forum are huge NASCAR fans, but seriously, look at all of the major companies that spend HUGE bucks to put their names on the front, back and sides of stock cars going around race tracks at speeds up to 200 mph:

Lowes, Valvoline, DuPont, Home Depot, Coors Light, Kellogg's, Kodak, Miller Lite, Budweiser, UPS, Target, Tide, Rubbermaid, DeWalt Power Tools, Pennzoil, Interstate Batteries, Caterpillar, CITGO...just to name a few.
Having a smoking section in a restaurant is like having a peeing section in a swimming pool.....

I've seen the dot method of skywriting. It seems to work much faster that the single plane method and the other letters don't blow away before the word is finished.

Of course NASCAR hangs adds everywhere, like on axles, suspension parts, in the car.. Anywhere they have a camera mounted that may see it. This is because NASCAR sold out years ago to the sponsors and billy bob and bobby ray are too dumb to care about the excessive advertising and progressively less interesting races.

Didn't some movie a few years back buy ad space on a rocket going into space? I think it may have been that bomb the California gov made.. last action hero or something.. I think Pepsi has also tried advertising in space.

On the boot of a race car driver! That's hilarious! The funny thing is, the company probably paid a s--tload of money for it!

Was watching boxing a few weeks ago on HBO and one of the fighters had an add across his back, I believe it was for the Casino they were fighting in.

It appeared to be done in some kind of ink.
