Favorite Disney Film?

Sun Dec 28, 2003 4:13 am

An American (if not international) tradition I guess....

what's your fave Disney feature film cartoon and/or movie?

I guess I'll go with the Lion King... though many of their late '80s/early '90s films (i.e., Beauty & Beast, Aladdin, Little Mermaid, etc) were pretty incredible for an animation standpoint.

Until this year, my favorite was without a doubt the Lion King. Spectacular movie.

But Finding Nemo really amazed me. OK OK, before everybody starts flamming me here, I know it was made with Pixar's help. But a great production anyways. Hands down !

SOUTHA.

Lion King was excellent but I too thought Finding Nemo was wonderful.

I like a lot of them, Lion King and Toy Story are probably my favorite animated ones. The best movie they made was Cool Runnings. Haven't seen Finding Nemo yet but I want to see it. Never heard of Fern Gully.

That was the one about the Pixies and the wisecracking bat, right? If so, then yes, seen it.

Cool Runnings is a good one. Was there a Disney tie-in with Tron? I liked the animation on Beauty and the Beast and Fantasia 2000: The flamingos with the yo-yo still has me laughing!

When I was in college, the only cinema in town (3 screens!) was showing Lion King and Angles in the Outfield as a double feature. I went and so did several other people and their children. We all sat through Lion King (yes, it was good) and sat through Angles also. I won't give away the ending, but everyone in the theater was applauding, screaming and I think there was even a high-five! As we were walking out, some people waiting to see Lion King asked if we really were applauding the movie. Yes, the ending was that good.

GO CANUCKS!!

Good grief. "Cool Runnings" and "The Black Hole"????

I am old enough to remember "old Disney." That is not a knock against the more recent Disney fare, much of which is fantatsic, i.e., "Beauty and the Beast," "Toy Story" and "TS 2."

But the apex of "old Disney" and my favorite: "Mary Poppins." This film was a star-making turn for Julie Andrews, who won the Best Actress Oscar(R) for the role. And the supporting performances by Dick Van Dyke, and the wonderful Brit actor who played the father Mr. Banks (his name escapes me, but he was also in "Bednobs & Broomsticks) and others were memorable. Recall also the fusion of animation and live action in "Mary Poppins." The music was also wonderful, winning additional Oscars(R).

LOL, well, at the risk of carbon-dating myself, I too love the "old school Disney" films. Hmmmm, such as, "The Parent Trap", "The Shaggy D.A", "Herbie Goes To Monte Carlo", etc. I also vividly recall watching "The Wonderful World Of Disney" on TV every Sunday at 5:00 p.m. "Fantasia" is absolutely
brilliant. Love it.

And, hands down, "Bedknobs & Broomsticks" (Angela Lansbury) takes the booby prize as the all time "poor taste-sexual innuendo-what were they thinking?" movie title of all time! LOL.

CanadianBoy, I actually used to watch some of those when I was younger too, so you're not making yourself look too terribly old.  Big grin

Heck I even watched Charlie the Lonesome Cougar, all the Herbie movies, and many others. God it's been such a long time I don't remember them all, but I grew up on disney classics.

The pixar movies weren't actually disney films though, they were just contracted with Disney but animated by the excellent folks at pixar. So if we were to narrow it down to disney-only movies, I'd have to say the finest examples from recent years are The Lion King...which really was an adventure in itself.....Aladdin (the first one), and Lilo and Stitch. (My favourite movie of all time).

If we go back to the disney classics though, they stand alone in the animation world. Each one was a benchmark.  Smile

"Feel the rhythm! Feel the rhyme! Get on up....it's pushcart/bobsled time...COOL RUNNINGS!!"

I also liked the Toy Story movies...I thought the animation was incredible when I first saw it.

The original Fantasia- for you youngsters who haven`t heard of it!

Oh, I've heard of it...the next to last sequence, the scene with "Chernabog" used to scare the living hell out of me & even though I haven't seen it in 10 years, it still sends a chill down my spine...
