Aussie Sports Events In June?

Fri Jan 09, 2004 2:53 pm

Hi...

I'll traveling to Australia for a few days in June to play tourist, and I'd like to attend a professional sporting event while there...Ill be in both SYD and MEL in early June...what sports are active at that time (that have teams in SYD or MEL of course) and what is the ticket situation like?

Thanks for your help!

In doing a little bit of research I see that there is an AFL game between Hawthorn and Essendon at the Melbourne Cricket Ground on one of the days that I am in MEL...should this be a hard game to get tickets to?

in Sydney the NRL will be in full swing, so you could go and see the Roosters,Parrammatta, Souths, Manly, Canterbury. You could probably see 3 gamees in a weekend if you wanted.

I think the England rugby team tour Australia for two tests in June as well. That'll be worth seeing, the Aussies will be out for revenge after the world cup final, and anyway, Australia v England is always a special event.

Get to the AFL at the MCG if you can,if you have not seen AFL played before it would be a great game to catch, the atmosphere is unbelievable at the MCG .They are in the middle of rebuilding one of the stands at the MCG at the moment to bring the seating capacity to well over one hundred thousand. You should be able to get tickets on the day providing you get to the game early.

Unless you can get over to WA you won't be able to see a V8 Supercar race live in June :

Sat an extra month and then you can catch the Bledisloe cup, between Australia and New Zealand!

That would be a repeat of the 50 point hammering you got last time, then Zizou?  Big grin

(OK, you won the World Cup semi-final, I know... Big grin )

No Banco I have seen "The Revenge of the Black Shirted Orcs" and believe me it's an even bigger margin than that because they have more "Beserkers" in their team than last time.

Banco, interestingly enough. I am an All Black fan, eventhough I am an Aussie. Don't ask me why, just am!!  Smile

Don't think so, Tsv. I think Australia are actually a better team. We watch the Tri-Nations over here, actually. Usually entertaining, although we can sit back and lament the death of forward play in the southern hemisphere - apart from the Springboks, anyway.

Zizou - surely that kind of behaviour is enough to get you locked up?  Big grin

Banco it seems like you are after another bet like the "World Cup" one you had with Pacific Journey? Or is it that you just like betting against the Kiwis?

Not sure I want to push my luck too much further, Tsv.  Big grin

Especially now Martin Johnson looks like he's going to retire. It just seems to me that the All Blacks have a tendency to showboat a little rather than getting on with winning the game. Bearing in mind how Australia disrupted them in that semi-final, it does put an interesting spin on the England pack holding them off when they were two men down, doesn't it?

I would recommend a game at the MCG (Melbourne Cricket Ground if you haven't realized that yet  Laugh out loud) - you'll be drawn into the atmosphere pretty quickly, and pick a favourite, even if you have no idea who the two teams are Big grin - oh, and be sure to get yourself a meat pie  Wink/being sarcastic
