"Absolutely Fabulous"

Sun Jan 11, 2004 5:52 am

Ben and Aviatsiya had both told me about this show, (with Joanna Lumley?)

I finally saw it this week and it was great. But it seems tough to find in the US. Anyone here watch it?

I also hear that the UK version of Couplings is quite good. Chances of seeing it in hte USA?

I think you'll find all of them on BBC America, Mirrodie.

Failing that, you can get all of them on DVD, just make sure your player work for Region 2.

Big thumbs up I love this program, its so damn funny!!! I'm surprised it's hard to find in the US, as they recorded a couple of shows in the Big Apple, (including a nice clip of a VS A340 in flight).

I believe that a US version of Coupling is in production at the moment, if I'm not mistaken.

Ab Fab is awesome. I've been hooked ever since I saw the first episode several years ago. I can't watch them without getting the desire to go find the bolly and get mashed.

The US version of Coupling was put on "hiatus" by NBC (after something like 3 or 4 episodes), so more than likely, it'll never see the light of day ever again. For some reason, not too many US versions of British shows tend to do well.

It's on Oxygen many times per day, let alone per week.
The "new" series (new to the US - no idea how new it is to the UK) is also just starting, where Saffi comes home and is pregnant.

They also love to rerun episodes past, in addition.

Lke I said, it's on Oxygen a LOT.

One of my favourite "sit coms", if that's not the wrong term to use. I'm surprised that no american tv companies have bought the broadcasting rights for the show. We get it on Norwegian tv for crying out loud.
But I suppose it does work better for the brits. After all there are many people (british politicians, actors, celbreties etc) which most people abroad have never heared of.

We get it too down south (well, compared to Thom@s, we ARE down south  Laugh out loud), though it's usually only screened at around midnight. I loved the NY special they did, especially the file footage of the VS A340.

Also, the one they did, where they went to Paris, because the "other one" (can't remember the name) was going to do a photo session for some fashion magazine. The ending was absolutely hilarious - poor Saffi Big grin

Now, a rather strange question - who the heck is that strangely demented girl that's always running around in a dress that would make Boy George proud? I skipped the series for a while and then all of the sudden she was there.

N863DA, this is the most recent one (ended last December in the UK) and is very good (as usual).

Yes, how IS the south?  Smile

I think you are reffering to "Bubbles". I believe she's the secretary of Edina ad work. Is she the one with the outrrrrrrrrrrrrrragous accent?

Yeah, it's Bubbles alright - as for how we are downhere: Cold. We had some snow day before yesterday, yesterday it was around -5 degrees centrigrade and today it's -5 degrees centigrade & the wind is storming. So if I had had chance, I'd stay in bed all day. But of course, I had to get out, and some kids (5 or 6 of them) decided that I was going to be target practice for their snow/gravel/stones/???-balls. Fortunantly for them I wasn't in the mood for running and fortunantly for me they had absolutely zero aim - with one of them managing to miss me by 3 feet despite only standing 6 feet from me!

The ones where Saffy is pregnant are newer episodes. "You need to tell people, dah-ling. Otherwise they'll think you're fat!"

I have the boxed set of the first three seasons and the 'movie' called "The Last Shout" where Edina is helping plan Saffy's wedding. "We'll show that Calissia Claig, dah-ling..."

There are new episodes since Eddie & Patsy got married in New York!!?? We usually get them a year or so later in Canada - but they rerun weekly on the Comedy Network here & I never get bored of them.

When did the new ones air in the UK?

Actually, when Ab Fab first hit the US shores there was a rush by none other than Roseanne to churn out an American version.

I think the problem was, that there was no way to do the series justice in the U.S. Think about it...TV sitcom characters doing drugs and drinking heavily all the time without any moral repercussions?

No way a certain narrow-minded segment of society would let that pass!

i like that sassy blonde.

i think the episode i saw was where the black guy learns that his lady is pregnant by the shows end.

Also, great line where she says "look at Julia Roberts lips. Can they get any bigger? I looks like Her lips gave birth to her head."
