Nick Saban To Stay At LSU

Sun Jan 11, 2004 8:58 pm

Even though Nick Saban did indeed meet with a Chicago Bears representative in Baton Rouge, he has decided to stay at LSU. His contract will make him the best paid coach in college football, as he will earn $1 more than the current money leader, Bob Stoops of Oklahoma.

This is good news for LSU and good news for college football in general. It's always good to have such a great strategist like Saban roaming the sidelines regardless of what team he coaches.

By the way...for those of you out there that have yet to experience a game in Tiger's quite an experience. I'd suggest it everyone.

Just read that that raise will be $900,000 per year.

Last year, Bob Stoops earned about $2.5 million.....Saban about $1.6 million.

I'd stay at LSU too.  Smile

3 things kept Saban here:

1) the contract (currently $1 more than Stoops, and is being renegoatiated)
2) #1 team, and another great recruiting class. Already predicted for top 3 for next year
3) lousy results for most coaches who jump from college to pros (Spurrier, Pete Carroll in football; Tim Floyd (until this year) and Rick Pitino are two basketball examples)

And yes, there is nothing like Saturday nights in Death Valley.
