Is It Legal To Sell "Jarts" On Ebay?

Thu Jan 15, 2004 6:47 am

"Jarts"... two-pound steel lawn darts with sharp points (ask Greg). They were banned from stores in the '80s due to, shall we say, safety concerns.

A friend of mine has a pristine set, and wants to sell them on Ebay. Aside from his obvious legal liability should a transaction go through and a toddler get skewered, is it legal to sell these?

Is it legal to sell javelins, shot puts, other dangerous things you can whip across the yard?

Oddly, they are collectibles (because they were one of the stupiest ideas ever to make it into production!).
But E-Bay probably won't touch them.
I'd tell your friend to hang onto them....if there is ever a Product Liability Hall of Fame they will likely sit right next to the Pinto and Firestone tires.....
