Photos Of The MIG25 Found In Iraq

Sun Jan 18, 2004 4:15 am

This is not meant to spark any debates, but here are some photos of the MIG25 that was found in Iraq buried under the sand last year. Wonder if the aircraft will ever see the skies again?

Might help if it had wings. Other than that it appears to be in pretty good shape. Might make a great museum piece someday. To get all the sand out of it would probably mean taking it completely apart, cleaning it then putting it back together.

Not worth the effort even if it had wings.

There had a number of aircraft buried.

Rumors where before the war that he had buried a large amount of material intending to recover it after the sanctions where lifted.

This aircraft was part of it's burial, but most of the aircraft that have been found, haven't exactly been salvageable.

Don't know if that was unintentional or what.

Actually, they started burying their aircraft after the war started. After the coalition Air forces clobbered the Iraqi's Air force, the Iraqis started burying their remaining Migs in the sand.

It is believed that the intention was to recover them after the war and still have some semblance of an Iraqi Air force.

However, coalition forces continued bombing the hidden Migs in the sand.

Their is a segment on this very topic in a F-15 documentary, that just showed on the History channel.

Very interesting.
