Is It Time To Redefine The Pecking Order?

Thu Jan 22, 2004 5:36 am

Last April MattD established the pecking order at a.net based upon quality, not being a post whore. However, a few users are now no longer with us. I lay a charge upon MattD (and whoever else is interested) to come up with a new pecking order!

As of April 2003:

1. KROC. Mike here gets pride of place simply because I think he deserves it (even though my toes curl at saying that). He is probably the best known user here. And, of course, he does hold the number 1 spot for number of posts. And unlike way too many other users, he actually always has something useful or at least funny to say.

Signed,
Johan

2. Alpha1. Number two slot in both posts and my list. A wonderful coincidence, by the way. Alpha1, even though him and I don't see eye to eye on many things, and have "gotten into it" on countless occasions, I have to give the guy credit and respect because 1) he knows what he is talking about 2) is very methodical in his posts and 3) stands firm in his beliefs.

3. Superfly. Pimp Daddy extraordinaire. Probably the second most well known person here after KROC. Style and class, and a heck of a nice guy in person (even though him and I couldn't be more dissimilar on our political views). Here is proof that people can sit at opposite ends of the political spectrum and still be friends.

4. Matt D. Well, I HAD to put myself in somewhere. There seems to be no middle ground with me. A ruthless, heartless, closet-gay mysoginist. That's how some people see me. Others seem to see me as one who tells things like they are, regardless of whether or not my statements will offend, or "hurt" others.

5. We're Nuts Although Mr Nuts strikes me as a very angry person, who, in his mind, "progress" would be to trade in our cars for bicycles, he is ever constant and lurking around. He has an opinion on almost everything, even though I never seem to see him say anything positive about anyone or anything. I sometimes wonder if he "really" is involved with Southwest. After all, they are a light hearted fun group. This man strikes me as having the beliefs of Ralph Nader, combined with the acidity of Pat Buchannan and Lyndon LaRouche. Definitely the antithesis to the typical WN folk.

6. 777236ER This guy probably takes even more abuse than I do. But he seems to have a pretty good sense of humor. He gives a lot of shit, but he also takes a lot of shit. Always a prolific poster, usually with some substance. And, of course, he made a modified KIWI Int'l 727 tail with my name on it.

7. MX5_Boy Like 777 above, this guy gives a lot of shit. But he also takes a lot (no pun intended). A valuable contributor to our website from Down Under, and I find myself wondering if he really wants to "hook up" when he lands here in SoCal.

8. Heavymetal Probably the most level headed user we have here. I always admire his well thought out and methodical posts. I agree with so much of what he says. No garbage from this guy. What he types is ALWAYS worth reading.

9. Cfalk If I were to have to pick one user whose beliefs most closely mirror mine, I would have to pick Charles. The only reason you will almost never see him and I commenting on the same thing is because I feel it would be a duplicate post.

And last, but not least:

10. MD-90. Not one you would think is one of the "top 10". But I admire this users beliefs, many of which mirror mine. He's not one of the most prolific posters either. But when he does, he's always articulate, well thought out, and most important-respectful. Yet he can hold his ground pretty darn well.

We're Nuts, Mx5_boy, and Heavymetal are no longer with us.

Pretty odd for an aviation forum when most of the "top" users on the pecking order seldom post on the aviation section of the forum at all.

Have you been on the aviation side lately? It is ALL the same shit over and over and over. NW DC-9s 717 would be good for, why no service between ASS and FCK and whos FAs are the hottest. The mods seem to not care about the double topics so it continues to spiral down the crapper. It gets old since all the good topics have been discussed. I still look through for something remotely interesting and if it is something new and exciting i read it and post. Non-av is where the fun is and where we can all sort of get to know each other without getting bounced for an off topic hey how are ya and what do you think about XX.

That's beacause a lot of the users with stuff to say have gotten sick and tired of threads whose starters are "JetBlue Goes Transatlantic," onlyto open the thread and see "well, would they?"

Some might be weary of uninformed airline management discussions that amount to little more than conjecture and fantasy.

Not to dis the Av forum, there's a lot of meat on there between the filler, and it teaches me a lot. Personally, though, I've asked most of what I wanted to ask, and said most of what I've wanted to say on these topics, and other similar issues. I like the discussions on the non-av forum, and I love to dis KROC's overgrown Sunfire.

Hmmm....interesting rehash of an old topic. I'll have to think about it and if I remember to, come back and post an "updated" list.

I agree with you over in Civil. It's all the same tired old BS. And it's bad BS at that. I mean how many times does it need to be asked what our favorite color scheme is? So what if Northwest bought A330s' instead of 767's? Get over it. There never has been, nor will there ever be nonstop 747-400 service (complete with PTV's) between ABQ and TUS. People did just fine for 90 friggin' years without PTV's. Your life will not end nor will you need years of therapy following a three hour flight (which your parents paid for) wherein you actually had to keep yourself occupied.

Life goes on.

Now start a topic about AirCal or the "old" days, or let a lively discussion about some controversial decision announced by an airline start, and I'll be in the discussion.

I've started a topic in the civil aviation forum for every single post you've ever made, 5NEOO.

Just thought you'd like to know that. I'm more interested in my kind of planes, like Progressive Aerodyne Seareys, Kolb Mark III Xtras, and TEAM Airbikes, than United Airlines.

No, I don't really care if you're ever going to see an A345 LeaderShip at Phoenix Sky Harbor (I don't even know half the airport codes that so many people bandy about).

Sure, it is the same crap as goes on here also. Indianguy has a daily bashing of all things America, some spotty kids talk about not getting laid, and then the usual every two week specials.

1. Any Ipod users here
2. Need help with a song
3. Bush is bad, and here is why
4. All Arabs are good and Bush is bad
5. Anyone from Buttplug, Indiana ?
6. Jamesadg86 trying to pick up middle aged women
7. Please, please (super please) post photo's of your girlfriends, so that I can wank off to them.
8. Back Door offers .... oo er
9. Cutest A.net members (disguised question 7)
10. Why does it hurt when I pee ?

Albequrque and Tuscon? I don't know any of these airport codes except for the ones I can guess, like HSV and JFK. My mother is a pilot and the airports she tends to fly to aren't graced with cute 3-letter identifiers ... in fact we avoid those, their FBOs tend to be more expensive.

Not that many people on this forum except for the pilots in training have ever been inside an FBO before or landed on a grass strip before.

Just because I do not make that many posts in civil av etc does not mean that i do not visit the other forums here. I visit civil-av and other forumshere to learn and enjoy. I however post mostly in non-av because of the fact that I enjoy the international flavor of the discussions of various events. I also am more at ease posting in non-av since I (in my humble opinion) feel my knowledge of these topics is greater than my knowledge of civil aviation.

I agree that the topics both here and in other forums can get repetitive but that can happen at any site with the number of members and the volume of posts here.

Civil-Av/tech are places where I go to learn and Non-Av is where I go to be a bit of fool but also discuss topics in a polite manner.

Yours,
The Over Tired IHadAPheo

IHadAPheo,
I don't think anyone is knocking Non Av, I just think it is odd that the highest ranked users spedn most of their time in Non Av, and in most cases do not post in Civ Av at all.

Well, here's a new war...

I don't know any airport codes, except for the swiss ones and about 10 more... I can't tell the difference between a A320 and a A321 if you show me a pic...(Boeings I know better) But I survive pretty good that way.

12. What's the best XX (insert any subjective)
But I think that's still more interesting than "what aircraft flies from where to which airport on which day?"

Question of interests, ain't it...

something else: do you need a pecking order in a aviation forum???

I think it's more reasonable in the non-av forum, if anywhere...

All three of them deleted themselves after the non-av forum was temporarily closed, and apparently posting again on a.net isn't worth $60/year to them (it isn't to me either but that's a whole 'nother matter altogether).

lol, it's s'ok 5NEOO, I've been here 4 years, you've been here 3 months...

Only being investigated by the FBI outranks how much I was stunned when I found out that We're Nuts was only 16 ... I always figured he was a bitter sounding old geezer like Alpha 1 Big grin
