We sold them at the optical shop I worked at. The ophthalmic lens department @ Oakley doesn't cut certain powers, but those frames have a low base, so it shouldn't be a problem unless you're a high minus. (the lenses aren't as curved in those metal frames as they are in the more wrapped plastic frames)

I got comped a pair of XXs some 5 years ago, and they are still kicking. Oakley has lenses of very high optical quality. I've sold the square wire and other frames for general use to younger customers, and they generally enjoy them.

As far as looks, Oakleys are distinctive, though hardly the best looking nor pricey frames in town. If you're going for brand, can't beat 'em, everyone knows Oakley.

If you are going for pure style, Oakley was typically the last brand I presented to a young male customer looking for everyday glasses unless they particularly asked for them.

Yeah, we don't find many patients in the office interested in Oakley's as much as we do with:

Ray Ban (I have Ray Ban P and love them)
Vanni
Arnette
Serenghetti
Gucci
Versace

I have a pair of the Oakley sunglasses, And while I love them, They are NOT worth the money that you pay for them. I believe the cheapest pair you can buy is about 75-80$. But they are good glasses, Though not worth all that money. I dont wear eyeglasses so I wouldnt know about Oakley's eyeglasses.

I ran over my Oakley's with my car, they were a really old pair (had the old logo), but cost $120  Sad . Since then I've just settled with a $70 pair of Arnettes which I happen to like better.

Well I'm not the type of guy to spend over $50 for a pair of freaking sunglasses, but I do like the Oakley styles, so - anyone know where I can get some knockoffs? Good websites especially.. there are lots of imitiation sites but I can't tell which ones are legit. Thanks.

I'll say this, $50 for a nice pair of glasses is a drop in the bucket.

These are your EYES we are talking about. If you're active, and don't have the right kind of lenses, and you get hit in the face, that plastic is going right into your eye.

Poor wrap around? Might as well not have sunglasses.

Oakley again, has very good optical quality lenses, the Fives retail for around $95, and the XXs and Minute go for $120-$165 or so. It's like going to the dentist and getting a better toothbrush, spend the money and get a good pair to protect your sight.

I know $150 seems like a lot, but if you treat them right they will last a damn long time. Ray Bans are decent and can be had for less, but either way, please spend the money to take care of your eyes.

if you are looking for sports glasses, get julbo. oakley was innovative once, but has become an overpriced "brand". and nothing but a brand. their quality is not in line with top products, at least in my field of activity, alpinism and watersports, where you want good performing eye protection and do not care about the best looks or brand image.

Zak-

That's like saying Porsche is just an overpriced brand, in your field of activity, which is towing boats.

Come on, the optics in Oakley eyewear are top notch. We've sold number of custom rigged Waterjacket and various other glasses/goggles of theirs to serious sports competitors.

The best and most specialized for watersports? Maybe not the best, but the original poster wants RX Eyewear, so you don't need to dump on something you have a limited understanding of.

I'm defending the optical quality and construction of the frames, nothing else, I think wearing any brand name or logo is lame ass, but I sold many of their glasses to customers of all shapes and sizes.

$50 is nothing to spend on eye wear. My Calvin Klein frames alone cost over $500.

Thats nice!

...Anyway, I got mine for £100 which I know is quite alot for sunglasses, especially when it always rains here. But the lenses are amazing, i've never been able to see so much before in some conditions, they work extremely well from a lens point of view, and they look cool too.

Justified!

I got a pair in Woodbury Commons in NY. They are very nice. I wear them when I drive or when I mow the lawn, it does a really good job at keeping the sun out. I'm not an ass with them though, like some people where them to be 'cool' or to wear them on a rainy day or indoors, ick.

Cancidas,

"with these I'm most likely going to spend around $200. In my opinion, well worth the price."

What did you need to ask us for? I own a pair of the square wire 2.0s and I love them. I take care of my shades and I plan on having them a long time. As long as I am careful not to sit on them or drop them repeatedly, I would have no problem spending $300 on a pair.

I wear contacts so Im not familiar with the Rx Oakley shades, but if I did need them, Oakley would be one of my top choices.

Cancidas-

As I said before, the optical quality of Oakley lenses is outstanding. They sent many copies of that article to us to display for customers  Smile
