Opinions On The 04 VW Golf GTi 1.8 Turbo

Sun Feb 01, 2004 4:32 am

My parents have decided to get me a new car for college (as I'm staying in state and do need a car for getting around town). I've always had my eye on the 2004 Golf GTi. Any comments on the car...I'm test driving the manual tonight.
Kind Regards,

Love the GTi. My friends brother has a 1.8 GTi tuned to 220bhp. This thing flys! You will not be disappointed  Big grin

If you're in the USA you should wait until next year when the new model comes out.

They are a lot of fun. Problem areas have been fixed, so it should be a reliable car. Low interest finance rates are available right now. Even in its 6th model year, it is still a fresh car. Lots of features, great fit and finish, great safety, and it's a lot of fun to drive. There is some turbo lag with the 1.8T, but you get used to it, and in fact it becomes fun to take advantage of.

Let us know how your test drive went.

I would not suggest it.
My good friend is leasing a 2003 GTI VR6 model. He has had to replace the axel, and is suffering from tranny problems. The interior quality is ok, except the rubber sealing around the sunroof is starting to detach itself. IMHO, it's quick, but rather boring. They really should have put in a larger more angled shifter in that car as well.

Well I just took the test drive, and should be getting one next week or the week after. Silver, black leather, and ESP are basically what I want in it. The handling is incredibly responsive, and it was actually very rainy today, yet the car handled just fine. Thanx for the replies guys!

The more golf carts I see on the road the better...you guys put a whole new level of "easy" kill n' own on the street.

Gomes, you though I was to be kept out of a VW thread? What the HELL where you thinking?  Laugh out loud

Wait for the new one. Has a much better rear suspension setup, and stiffer body overall. Looks are subjective, but dynamically speaking, better than the crapbox that the current version is. At least that's what all the mags say about it now...

Like I said before, I cannot say I like the new design of the Golf/GTi cars. It seems a bit overly designed; almost like VW tried a little too hard. As for me, I will stick with the 04 model  Smile

Huh? When did I say that? You're the one who says that when I post in some automotive threads. The problem is what you post is ignorant, and what I post has some thought put into it. You can post when and what you want, but for your sake, why don't you try to post something intelligent about cars? It would be refreshing.  Smile
