As its abbreviation indicates, IQ
is a quotient. It originated as the ratio of your 'reading age' to your 'chronological age'.
For example, a ten-year-old with an IQ
of 140 would be able to read and comprehend information at a level normally only achieved at 14.
Beyond around 140 an IQ
measurement ceases to mean much because it cannot be accurately measured. It's also the case that few people genuinely have an IQ
in this range. Which makes me wonder about the validity of some of these online IQ
tests. Try the Mensa IQ
test - it's a better indicator. It's also a damn sight more tricky.
