Fur Protesters In France Strip Down

PARIS - In a pre-Valentine's Day (news - web sites) protest, animal rights activists stripped down to their red bikini underpants Thursday on the Champs-Elysees, urging couples not to buy gifts of fur to express their love.

"Fur out, love in," read heart-shaped signs that the activists — two men and two women — held over their bare chests exposed to the wintry chill. They kneeled together on a pink mattress placed outside Louis Vuitton's flagship store.

"These guys are out here braving cold temperatures baring their skin to try to save some animal skins," said Andrew Butler, a spokesman for People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals, which organized the protest.

Camera-toting tourists, and some ladies in fur, were among those who stopped to stare at the eye-catching protest, which lasted 20 minutes.

"It's a free world after all," said Scottish tourist Leonora Conetta, 56, wearing a fur-collared coat. "I respect everyone's opinion."

Why is it always the ugly ones that like to disrobe in public?

Excuse me... but why are those signs in English? I believe all of France should be appalled at the fact that these people refuse to speak French.

Sad part is that wild fur is an enviromentaly friendly form of clothing.

The woman on the far right appears to have some peach fuzz going on in her armpit... More than what JCS can say he has.

do these people actually think they're going to accomplish anything by protesting?

I don't think them being furry have anything to do with their Frenchness. They don't actually seem to be French (PETA is non existant over here)

I really enjoy it when those Yahoo's come up to Anchorage to protest the Fur Rondy carnaval, which celebrates trapping, amoung other things.

They don't get down that far, usually there about four or five of them sharing a goose down sleeping bag and claiming that they are naked.

Of course it is usually -5 to 10 degrees outside, but still, they need to stick to their principals.

My wife loves to wear fur, and I have a client in the fur trade. It is a fine business, and a good, renewable, resource.

These people are, of course, entitled to express their opinions vigorously. And I am entitled to be amused when they do so.
