Forget "companies charging $20 for a CD
Forget "trying to find obscure artists."
Forget "auditioning a new song."
Those three excuses are bullshit, plain and simple. You know it. I know it.
Will somebody please just tell me why you feel like you have a God-ordained right to steal?
It doesn't matter if a $20 CD
is "one hit" and "12 songs of filler". That's irrelevant.
The record companies set the price you pay. Not you. If you want something, you should pay whatever is being charged. How is it any different than this scenario?:
You are dying for a 12 ounce Filet Mignon from Claim Jumper. It HAS to be a Claim Jumper filet. Not a Sizzler, Salt Grass, or Stuart Andersons. You look at the menu and decide that $24.99 is too much. So you sneak into the kitchen and help yourself to one. Then, as you are being carted off to jail, you claim that YOU are the victim because 1) clearly Claim Jumper was charging too much and 2) you "only" wanted the steak, and not the bread, salad, rice, or the potato.
You would get laughed out of court.
yet anyone attempting to steal music is doing the exact same thing.
I so cannot wait to see the day when some sullen, thinks-he-knows-it-all 15 year old gets slammed into prison.
And trust me. Once ASCAP and Co. have all of their ducks in a row, they
WILL find a sacrificial kid to show to the rest of the world.
