The Verve: Bittersweet Symphony

Thu Feb 26, 2004 12:07 pm

There are songs, and then there are SONGS! This is one of those songs that brings up a memory, that inspires creativity and positivity. What do you think of when you listen to this song?

For me, it was the Concorde video.

I just got bored, and this song came on Winamp.

So damn good  Big thumbs up. Definitely Concorde memories  Big thumbs up.

I made a Concorde slide show for one of my classes using that song because it fit so well! I even get a little "teary" sometimes! Big grin Unfortunately I can't send/post/display it anywhere because I haven't got permission from EVERY photographer to use the pictures on a site or commercially etc.

Great song!

Cheers - Skytrain.

Horrible song that was far overplayed when it came out. I'm glad I don't have to listen to it all the time anymore, or force myself to change radio stations. The song had potential, but the delivery just sucked.

Just my opinion!  Big grin

The verve broke up after that record, because Richard Ashcroft (singer) and Nick McCabe (guitarist) didn't get along at all

Ashcroft has since released two solo albums, both of which I enjoy on a regular basis.

Any lovers of Bittersweet Synphony should check out the album it's on, Urban Hymns, and also the one they release before that, A Northern Soul. Both are top records.

It's a decent song. Nothing you have to turn off when it comes on the radio or anything, more like turn it up a bit.

A definite one-hit wonder band...but what a song!!!! Absolutely stunning, perfectly fits to the Concorde decommissioning, but also great on its own!
I know it's only VfB but I like it!

I like that song but I like a couple of mixes I've heard of it better. There's a jungle mix of it that I love.

I think The Verve was hit pretty hard, when they found out that they wouldn't be earning a cent from that song.

Why?

Apparently, the strings you hear, is from some symphnoy orchestra's cover of some obscure Rolling Stones song, and Rolling Stones were out faster than you can imagine, demanding that The Verve should either remove the song (of course, this was AFTER it had become a major hit) or pay the Rolling Stones some major royalties.

I'm so sick of that song that I can't stand it. Lucky Man is a much better song from that same album.

Clocks is a great song too.
