It's Actually Snowing In Atlanta

Thu Feb 26, 2004 9:48 pm

Well I moved down here thinking that I had seen my last snow, well I guess not since its snowing now. Damn, back where I used to live I got my fair share of the stuff, so no real big deal to move around in. It's just weird to see it in ATL. I know some of you Crapchestarians and other up state New Yorkers, are probably like oh god who cares, which is partly why I made this topic.  Big grin.

Well, for thesecities, the municipal plow fleet is an S-10 with a driveway blade. What do you expect? And snow tires? "S'no tires gon' git no taction in this stuff."

Crank up those thermostats, guys - I just bought some more shares in a couple of Canadian gas producers.

Christ all mighty. Man up!!!

Sure, the southern cities may shut down when there is a light dusting of snow, but at least when the temperature hits 90 F, people don't DIE like they do up north. I'll take a one day business shut down than dying from heat stroke any day. Who should man up now?  Smile

Anyway, this winter has got to be the most inconsistent season I've ever experienced. One week I could be wearing short sleeve shirts and the next I would be bundled up freezing. Just last weekend I got a little suntan in 70 F weather and today we get a couple of inches of snow!

I can't wait for JCS17 to come and enlighten us with one of his anecdotes from his experiences in ATL with snow...

Maybe Norway can help? Soccerwise, Vålerenga drew 1-1 with Newcastle in tonight's UEFA third round match. When we again approach the shores of Britain (old Viking territory, if you didn't know) for the return match, coach Bryan Robson has better charge his pacemaker. BTW, - 2, dark, but clear in Oslo.

Who cares...its not like its a big deal when it snows or sleets in Atlanta. It happens about three times a year.

That being said, it was nice to get days off from school because of an inch and a half of snow.

Hartsfieldboy, its obvious you have never spent a summer up "North". Temps here in Crapchester regularly will reach into the 90's, with ridiculous humidity levels. And in my 27 years I have never seen anything shut down anywhere up here because it was "too hot". Next time, check yourself, before you wreck yourself.  Big grin

Oh ,and AA61hvy leveled Jcs17 with the most truthful signed by post in a long time.

Here's my Official Snow Report for Atlanta:

Where I live, a few miles south of ATL we picked up around an 2" of snow, at least that's how much I had to brush off the back window of my car this morning (only had about an inch accumalation on the grass). Where I work at, about a half mile south of ATL, they got maybe an inch and a half. Snow totals in the Metro Area ranged from an inch to 4 inches. Most areas of the North Georgia mountains saw snowfall totals rangings from 2-4 inches, with some higher elevations reporting totals of 6" or so. The roads where I live were not that bad, with only a few icy spots reported, at least that's what the conditions were @ 7:30 this morning on my way to work. The only time I even can close to sliding was when I was pulling into the parking lot at work this morning. Had the cold air been in place earlier in the day on Wednesday, things could have been worse. Most of the snow around where I live and work has already melted, but with the lows tonight forecasted to be below freezing, there is the chance of the roads icing up for tomorrow's morning rush hour (I hope not, as I have to drive in that mess tomorrow for much of the day).

Excellent snow report. You should do the snow reports at the Ski Mountain I work at in New Hampshire.  Smile

One of the FEW times it's snowed and they didn't totally shut the town down. I guess it's because we didn't have ice this time around. But the kids sure wasted a snow day.  Nuts

Well, like in Texas when the snow starts to fall, 85,000 car crashes happen very quickly! They're just not well-trained!

Wow, someone "wants" to get back to Detroit. A rarity.  Big grin

And Hartsfieldboy. Chicago is a city full of softies. Them midwesterners can't take it. I'll give you that, but Crapchester keeps on rolling, no matter the weather.

Try living in east Tennessee. We can go from snow to mid 60's in a matter of hours. True I have lived here my whole life. Here in the south I thank God that we don't have as much snow as ya'll do up yonder in the north. At least we get an unexpected break from school every now and again. Stupid university of Tennessee however never shuts down. I swear we have a Yankee that makes that decision. Probably going its only two inches heck they can drive in this. All I ever hear from the northern students is complaints about how we can't drive in snow. This coming from one of the worst drivers I know. We just don't get experience with it that often however, as was mentioned about try sweltering it out at 90 degrees and 100% humidity. I work with people from Phoenix and they always complain about how hot it is here. The guy says it is definitely hotter here at least after factoring in humidity.
