Michigan --

Filled up Thursday at a Shell station in the Detroit suburb of Dearborn Heights -- $1.64 per gallon -- regular.

I live in Michigan; fuel was 1.69 today. A civic will get around 30 MPG.

Well, let's see; current av prices are $1.65/gal and if a Civic gets about 30mpg and you drive 1000 miles, that's 33.33 gallons. Even if prices go up to $2.00/gal that's only an extra $11.66 per thousand miles, about the cost of having about four-five beers in a regular bar/restaurant, IF you leave the girl a tip). Probably not a financial issue, even on a budget? Regards...jack

If you're talking about a Honda Civic Hybrid, 45 mpg is normal. Actually, I've averaged 45.7 for the 30K I've put on mine.

To all who replied,

thanks a million for the info,
will be visiting US in fall and driving from PHL to DTW, so it gives me an idea on what to budget for.

30-40 mpg at less than 0ne GBP is going to be heaven.

I am filling up my car today, tank is nealy empty and at 3.50 GBP per gallon and a 23 gallon tank im not going have much change left from 80 gbp, and i get 15 mpg!!!!
really looking forward to doing all the rustic bits in PA, looks like there is a lot of history there

If you're going to wind up in DTW, be sure to budget time for The Henry Ford (formerly Greenfield Village and Henry Ford Museum) in neighboring Dearborn. Most visited landmark in North America and well worth the day (at least) you'll spend there. Kind regards...Jack

The turnpike does offer great scenery, lots of construction/delays at times because most of the road is only two lanes each way. Are you planning on going though northern PA instead? Either way make sure to soak up the scenery in PA because once you hit OH there's nothing rolling country side and plains at best.

Jack/Rocky

Yes Dearborn is certainly on the list (3rd visit) and intend starting off fron PHL via the steam museums at Strasburg and Scranton, then to Niagara,Falls and getting to DTW via the Appalachian Parks, for the wildlife and leaf fall.
Spending 2 weeks in Ann Arbor, going to the Michigan Game, and doing a bit of junior football refereeing.
