About Wisconsin; It's A Great Place

Sun Feb 29, 2004 10:26 pm

Inspired by that other Wisconsin thread.  Smile

Despite Jeffrey Dahmer, Joe McCarthy and Tommy Thompson, Wisconsin is a great place.

I literally know 20+ people here in San Francisco from Wisconsin. Three of my closest friends are from Wisconsin. I actually know more people from Wisconsin than from San Francisco, even though I live in San Francisco.

Although I was born and raised in Gary, Indiana, I've visited Wisconsin many times. It is a beautiful place. Very affordable, four seasons, lots of outdoors activities, great cheese, cute fat girls, great schools, Democratic leaning and best of all, Midwest Airlines is based there.  Smile

I've flirted with the idea of moving to Superior or Sheboygan Wisconsin.

I am not a huge sports fan but the Green Bay Packers are awesome. They play on real grass outside even when it's -20 degrees.
You have to admire them over some wimps that play inside on fake grass under a dome in Texas where it hardly snows.
Embarrassment ooops, did I say Cowboys. Embarrassment

Some of the greatest members in our government come from Wisconsin.

I spent a bit of time in Milwaukee with some dear friends of mine a couple of years ago. I really fell in love with the place. Because when in the US I share my time between LA and NY it was great to see some of the real american heartland.

Wisconsin has a great culture inspired quite significantly by it's German origins. The beer is great, the nightlife is great - I can't say a bad thing about the place at all.

Hope to go back there soon.

I agree. When your sick and tired of the uptight, pretentious East Coasters and superficial LA crowd, it's nice to see a place with genuinly nice down to earth folks.

Actually, the great Gordon Baxter, did describe Wisconsin girls at Ohskosh as "fat steamy blondes serving fat steamy food," or something likely that.

It's just too cold for my taste, though.

Living in Chicago I go to Wisconsin quite a few times a year. Things I enjoy about Wisconsin:

-Buying great cheese (cheap) at one of the many dairy farms
-Shopping at the outlet mall in Kenosha
-Brats
-The annual EAA Airventure in Oshkosh
-Going to Miller Park to cheer for the Cubs when they're in town. Nice park by the way, too bad the team sucks.
-Camping and skiing (believe it or not)
-Visiting the Wisconsin Dells. Always a good time.

Things I can't stand about Wisconsin:

-The Green Bay Packers. I mean props to them for playing outdoors on natural grass, but I get that here in Chicago with the Bears with the exception of Favre, ugly green and gold uniforms, and fans with blocks of cheese on their heads.
-The ridiculous speeding fines..

The jury is still out the women. There are plenty of fat girls, but not too many of them are cute.

I like it here, but as A319 mentioned:

Too true. Miller Park is awesome, but in all of the 6 or 7 Brewers games I've been to over the years, they only won one of them. Oh well, at least we have the Packers (who everyone seems to hate)!
Cheers!

Wisconsin is a great place...down-to-earth people who know how to have fun. The Wisconsin girls you posted look pretty accurate...I have 3 aunts living in Wisconsin and they are all "curvy" to say the least. One of them used to wrestle, but now she's a firefighter.

Milwaukee is a very underrated city in my opinion. Apart from Minneapolis it is my 2nd favorite Midwest city. Also Door County (on the pinky sticking into Lake Michigan) is a very scenic area. It's a vacation destination in the summer but it's still very laid back and apparently not overrun with tourists. I have relatives who just moved there, so hopefully I'll get a chance to visit soon.

How have you been?
Are you still here in the Bay Area?

Superfly,

Thanks for asking about me. I'm currently attending UC San Diego, but my family home is still in the Bay Area. I'm doing fine, but you're right, it's been a while since I've posted here.

You have GOT to give me there phone numbers!

I could do that, but you might end up speaking with their husbands...  Wink/being sarcastic

Yeah I'm having some second thoughts too. With the exception of Hudson, WI, and illegal fireworks, the state is really boring; comparable to Iowa, or god forbid NORTH DAKOTA! Ick!
