Pakistan Defeated India

Thu Mar 18, 2004 8:49 am

In another exciting finished one day cricket match Pakistan defeated India narrowly by 12 runs, leveling the series 1-1. Still 3 matches to come. Hope remaining matches will also be closely contested.

This cricket series is so far a big success.

India and Pakistan should be fighting on a cricket field, not on a barren glacier.

Maybe Indians and Pakistanis can finally learn more about each other, rather than engage in mindless name calling and sabre rattling across the border.

Stick to cricket. One could just as well argue the U.S. shouldn't be wasting its time chasing bearded old men around Afghanistan. Or dragging them out of holes in Iraq, for that matter.

The crowd in Pindi wasnt as sporting as the crowd in Karachi. You could "hear" the silence when Sachin or Pawar lofted a boundary!

In any case, both the matches were well and truly fixed anyway. India cannot afford to loose the series. That would mean a loss of more than just the series. So it is understandable that the matches need soem fixing. Thankfully, trhe Paki cricketers are available quite cheap on the market! Did you guys read the expose' on Akram and the Pakis' in last weeks Outlook?

Oh gimme a break.
Besides its better if India let Pakistan win. At least that way Pakistani generals would let future battles be waged on a cricket pitch than make a nuisance across some line of control.

And by the way, can we not use the term "Paki?" Its really quite derogatory. Right up there with Katherine Mayo using the term "Hindoo" in her wretched diatribe "Mother India."

That's so sweet, but the Indian cricket team doesn't play matches with any concern for the insecurities of Pakistani dictators.

One would hope so.
One would also hope that the Pakistani cricket team doesn't play with any concern for the insecurities of a certain Mumbai Shiv Sena "goonda" without whose obnoxious interventions, India-Pakistan matches would have been played years ago.

As someone who's a cricket fan, but not partial to either side, it was wonderful to see the crowd response after the first match. When India won, there was silence around the ground for all of two or three seconds. Then you could hear the deafening applause and see the standing ovation for both sides - and the Indian team's response to the crowd.

If ever the public gave a lesson to the politicians, that was it.

Err, sorry Man! But did u see the applause after the atch in Chennai? The crowd gave the Pukis a standing ovation as they did a victory lap.

I doubt I will see this in the Peshawar or the 2 matches i Lahore.

Bhindians were given standing ovation in Karachi when they won the game...Bhindians need to learn from Karachi crowd.
In Chennai, I could hear the ball hitting the advertising board when Pakistan was batting and I still remember the complete silence in the ground when your so-called God Sachin got out!!!

By the way,Is it true that Sachin Tendulkar is now truly classified as one of the gods Indians have? It sounds amusing but i wont be surprised...but none the less i think he is a good player, a master of slow and dead pitches,and surely more over rated then any cricketer alive.

What I DO remember is the India Pakistan match in India when Pakistan was about to win, crowd got so violent that the only time I can remember, the ENTIRE stadium had to be evacuated and the match resumed hours later.
Indian crowd is THE WORST. Most games interrupted, including the India Srilanka semi final of the world cup in India.
Pakistani crowd is WAY better.

I can NEVER forget the dead silence in packed staduim when Tendulkar got his middle stump uprooted first ball facing Shoaib Akhtar, the crowd had come alive moments earlier when he walked into the stadium.
with no expression.
I saw some "expressions" as well  Big thumbs up

Geez did you all have to turn this into a 'bash-India' thread?

I cannot fathom how someone could make such a comment with a straight face. Seems we're letting our prejudices blind us eh? I am an Indian supporter, but I don't belittle Pakistani players (nor players of any country), and I'm not going to go around calling Inzamam or Waqar etc overrated.

Seems pretty silly to say Sachin is over-rated. Just look at his record.

As an aside, when India were last in England I went to the Lords Test. Simon Jones got Sachin cheaply and huge cheer went round the ground, followed by a huge groan.  Big grin We wanted to see him bat, you see.

No doubt that Tendulkar has an amazing record on paper....but do these stats alone say it all? Tendulkar has scored most of his runs at home on dead pitches tailor made for Indian batsmen...put him against a mediocre attack in Chennai or Bangalore and watch him make a super effecient 100 but him batting in Perth is a different story. A player is great when his performances wins the team something..He doesnt win them anything...India wins only at home...they never win anything abroad. The super amount of hype that is created for him is catered for the indian market, which happens to be the largest market for cricket by far. All the commentators and media want to appeal to the indian viewers and singing about Tendulkar serves that purpose very well.
I dont think he is the best batsman even in the Indian team, that would be Dravid.Make no mistake, Tendulkar is good, but he is no Ponting or Hayden or Lara....let alone Richards.

OK, then, here's his record for all Test matches NOT played in India:

Matches = 64
Innings = 103
Runs = 5000
Average = 53.76
Highest Score = 241
Fifties = 22
Hundreds = 17

I would have said that a record like that away from home is not just good, it is quite extraordinary, more than a match for virtually any batsman you'd care to name.

You'll find the statistics at this site (the direct link doesn't work for some reason, you'll need to copy and paste):

http://stats.cricket4.com/player_analysis.asp?PlayerID=527&Opponent=0&Tour=0&MatchResult=All&MonthStart=Jan&YearStart=1876&MonthFinish=Mar&YearFinish=2004&ql=0&MatchType=T&Innings=0&Venue=n_IND&ShowCareer=1&ShowBatting=1&ShowBowling=1&ShowFielding=1&FromForm=1&x=107&y=9

Play around and see what you come up with.

Update on 5th ODI at Lahore.
India 293/7 after 50 overs.
BTW did you guys see the Lahori girls???
AMAZING!!!
This series is turning out to be a colorful one... obviously because of the "FEMALE CROWD".
But still not as good as the 1s showed in Karachi.

There was an element of irony in yesterdays match which was rightly brought out by the TV channels in India. Irfan Pathan, who played such a big role in winning the match for India comes from an area of Gujarat, which was worst affected by the anti-Muslim pogrom in 2002.

Infact, as some TV reports showed, at the height of the pogrom, Pathans own house in Vadodara was surrounded by BJP/VHP goondas shouting slogans asking the Muslims in the locality to “go to Pakistan”!

Guess there is a lesson for those like BarfBag who consistently raise doubts about the patriotism of India’s Muslims.

Roy,

"Its very easy on a forum like this to make tall claims. Thats the magic of the internet! But Remember, unless you back up what you say with evidence, you are going to get ripped apart."

Check the quote above , your own if you have forgotten. I don't believe the ripped apart part though , you are too screwed up to get ripped apart , no scope for that.

Roy,

Just because you get repeatedly screwed by all your boyfriends is no fault of mine. I guess one of the reasons you crap all over this forum, forgotten which hole to use for what.
Coming back to the point where are the links to prove your allegations ? Practice what you preach mate , if you can't learn to keep your trap shut.
