Christina Aguilera

Fri Mar 19, 2004 2:55 am

someone on the britney suggested starting this forum.

so here it is. i never liked christina, then her most recent album came out and i love the girl. i was in the virgin megastore recently, and saw an old cd--with genie in a bottle on it--and i was totally thrown that it was the same christina. i knew that, but just forgot.

plus VH1 had a GREAT tv special on her. so now, naturally i love her.

discuss.

I hope you're not judging her by looks...i.e. as being the impulse to give her a chance. I first heard Christina in 1999 on the radio and stereotypically thought back then that only black folks could sing like that and expected that when VH1 one day said they were going to show her video and I wanted to see it. She had a great voice like Mariah Carey. When I found out she was a blonde my jaw dropped and I'm like 'DAMN' now. She's very pretty, I'll bet she's heard that a bunch of times though...  Sad

I admit similarly though, whe 50 Cent came out, I refused outright to get into it (I donno why), until I saw a music video a couple of months later and recognized it's sound as a pleasant one that I've heard many times b4 at friends' places and when the credits came at the end I was like, "D'OH!!!"

And now "In Da Club" is the only one I like by him (except that song by G-Unit), he's the only rapper I've seen that does it like he's being all smooth, instead of yelling like some others do.

Many people seem to call her a skank, and various other sorts of things. Personally, I think her talent goes way, way, way beyond any of her immediate peers. Every time I see her perform on television, or at awards shows, she blows me away.

yes, her live performances (never seen one mind you--just on tv) are AMAZING. they way she did beautiful at the grammys this year was just incredibly, i was beside myself.

i dont judge her by her looks, i meant her appearance changed so drastically, i never connected the two in my mind.

her genie in a bottle crap was too teeny for me though.

and anyone that can release "dirty" and turn around and release "beautiful" and both be such incredible songs, is truly talented.

No, she used to be very pretty, and she probably heard that back then.

Now she just looks terrible. Go back to the way you used to look, Christina!

I can't complain about her talent, though. She's got a great voice.

Actually I thought she looked terrible in that Moulan (sp?) Rouge thing, girl freakin looked like Dee Snider for God's sake, it scared me. I liked her fashion sense from her first album. It is hard to find a picture that captures that essense now, but it is there is you look real closely, I found it and kept it, but my computer doesn't have internet and so I can't share a "pretty modern Xtina".  Sad

I think Christina is the most vocally talented of the blonde-pop princes from the 90's (Britney, Christina, Jessica, Mandy...). I'm not always a fan of her image, sometimes she borders on downright trashy, but you can't excape the raw talent and power in that voice of hers.

The piercing thing is pretty freaky but she's just being herself-which is what she wasn't being in her initial few albums. In addition to having the most amazing voice since Mariah Carey - thanks, Lehpron, for that comparison - she's also an artist of integrity, choosing the "Accept me as I am" mantra instead of taking the easy way out by staying as commercial as possible. This has no doubt cost her a lot of her early fans, particularly 'tween' girls but has gained respect from older listeners like myself. The album, "Stripped" and particularly the single, "Dirrty", shocked the hell out of people but that's the real Christina, not the prim and proper little pop queen from her 1999 debut. Take it or leave it.
