Anyone Feel Very Strongly About IN-N-OUT?

Sat Apr 03, 2004 4:44 am

Does anyone feel very strongly in either direction about In-n-out burger? I think its good but I don't think its amazing. It is good don't get me wrong but I don't understand it when people say its the best and its great etc etc. That said...I feel like a double double animal style right now..........................

Well I mean its better than the typical McDonalds/Wendys/Burger Kind crap.

Plus its got a fun kitsch factor, a throw back to the 1950's burger joints.

You could do a lot worse.

But who really cares, you'll be in sunny beautiful CA!

Well if you're not a big fan of burgers, then its no big deal.

But if you like a good burger, I still stand by my opinion that its the best burger place you can get. Following it is Steak and Shake and that custard burger place.

I do. It's one of the better things in life! I used to go to high school a minute away from one, so every other day me and my friends would go have a double double and a Coke under the sun. Ahh...I miss it.

Its no super burger to end all burgers or whatever (that would be the "wilbur" with 'shrooms). But at least the only time I had it (fisherman's Wharf area of SFO), it was for the price, far and away the best burger and shake I'd had.

I'll finally get to try them in a little more than a week when I go to LAS. I'm also planning on trying Fatburger as well.

IN-N-OUT Burger is really good. Got one right down the street from me. I don't particularly care for the fries but their burgers are delicious.

I am not a fast-food person - but I will make and exception for In-n-Out.

Whenever I go to Los Angeles, Las Vegas or Santa Barbara, and ALWAYS have one ceremonial meal.

Ask them to make it "double-double-animal-style" and you won't be sorry!

Damn, and I am 3,000 miles away !!!

Their burgers and fries definitely beat out other large chain fast food places. I eat there all the time, as there is one very close to my house.

I love In-n-out stuff.

So far all of you have focused on their food.

In addition to it, what I like is how the employees treat you there. Unlike minimum wage workers in Mac and BKs, here you have polite young kids who are glad to be working there. And best part is they can speak and understand English.

I think it's one of the greatest things to happen to fast food.

For one thing, the way they prepare the food is not found in any other chain fast food place. The burgers are hella greasy and the fries are salty, just the way god intended it. It's also relatively cheap, around $5 for a double-double with fries and a drink.

on another note, the in and out company is a very good employer. they pay their workers great wages ($10 per hour in some areas of california that i know of) and although the place seems really rushed, it looks like a good environment in which to work (much better, it seems, than my experiences at jack in the box.)

In and out needs to come to texas! why should Californians, Arizonians, and people from Nevada enjoy the great hamburgers while the rest of the nation suffers from a lack of good fast food!

My guess is that they've stuck to the west coast to avoid overexpansion into markets which they don't know could make them a profit. Part of it is probably that the weather is so great in the areas that In and Out is open, so they have a year round flow of customers, especially return customers.

Because they have stayed so relatively small, they can afford to pay their employees so well and keep the high quality standards that they have. I hope it stays that way.

Way overrated and nothing special.

But, if you're going to the one by LAX, there's some great plane spotting from that location.

It's a myth! It's actually, grey, cloudy, chilly CA! I rarely miss living there.

But In-n-Out Burgers are a ray of bright and warming sunshine. They do what they do very well. I, also, wish they'd open a Dallas outlet.

In-n-Out has damn good burgers and an amazing vanilla shake, no doubt about it. Especially animal style double-doubles - mmmm so good, I could go for one right now. I could eat In-n-Out maybe, max, 1 or 2 times a week - after that it gets really boring. In-n-Out burgers / shakes are great, but have them only once in a while!

As I live in the East, I've never heard of In N Out.

However, my vote goes to Fuddruckers hamburger chain.

You order them either 1/2 pound or 1/3 pound. They cook it to order. Some of them have the butcher shop right there, and in view. They give you a number and you sit and wait 8 minutes for your food to be 'cooked'. The fries are wedge potatoes.

They give you the burger, on a bun, and the fries. They have a huge toppings bar where you add your own toppings to your desire and taste. Along side the ketchup and mustard well dispensers, they have nacho cheese and jalapeno cheese dispensers.

They have an ice cream/shake bar as well. And several video games.

I don't know what all states they are in, but I've ate at them in Michigan and here in Florida.

Arizonians

From the state of Arizonia?  Nuts

ARIZONANS have been enjoying In-N-Out locally for a few years now - and the place is almost always a mob scene. Great food for a chain-style restaurant, but I'd have to give the "Best Burger" nod to Fuddruckers as well.

When In-N-Out opened here in Arizona a few years ago, it was the first time I'd ever seen people waiting in a drive through line for a burger and fries for up to 30 minutes. I went to one the other day, apparently right by a high school at lunch. I didn't even get out of my car, just drove away.. The burger is pretty good, never had a shake but their fries are the best I've had. Just deep fried potato... no special seasonings, no coatings... just, potato.

Best burger I'd agree goes to Fuddruckers.. especially their Ostrich Burgers... something like 98% fat free and tastes great!

The only thing better then an In-N-Out burger is:

An In-N-Out burger in Carlsbad or Vista California!

The Carlsbad location is right below the flight path at the Carlsbad airport and is less then a quarter mile from the beach!

You have to love living in North San Diego County!

P.S. I don't like the fries either.....

Fuddruckers is an entirely different class than In-n-out, they have good hamburgers. In-n-out is just the same as Sonic or Steak and Shake, tolerable at best. I'd rate the Carl's Jr as a better burger. (Though I can't spell at times  Smile/happy/getting dizzy)

lol Imisspiedmont, I'd never been to or heard of InNOut and they made it sound pretty popular and perhaps the best of the franchised burgers. Never had Sonic but I do like Steak and Shake, it's alright. Not the best, but all around a decent lunch.

In-N-Out is a fast food place. That said, when compared to McDonald's, Wendy's, Carl's Jr. etc...........it's head and shoulders above them. The difference is that they use FRESH ingredients, nothing is frozen.

For those people who don't like their fries, it's because they're used to freeze dried McDonald's french fries cooked in unhealthy "vegetable oil" that contain meat extracts in it to enhance the flavor. In-N-Out fries are made fresh right in front of you. You can see the guy peeling and slicing the potato to make the fries.

Remember, we're talking about hamburgers here, not filet mignon. That said, the meat is never frozen and is fresh as well. Nothing beats a Double-Double with grilled onions. You really can taste the difference in freshness. The problem with anyone who grew up outside of Southern California is that a hamburger to them is a Big Mac that is 100% processed and frozen and that's what a "good" hamburger should taste like in their minds, not something that is 100% fresh like an In-N-Out burger.

Besides, where else in the world can you enjoy a great burger and spot like at In-N-Out on Sepulveda and Lincoln next to LAX. Nowhere that I've seen!!!!

Let me reaffirm Plaaneboy's post - in the context of fast food, In-N-Out is incredible. Beyond their quality product, they take extremely good care of employees and highly manage their brand and overall appeal. They have much more control over product consistency, growth and earnings because they remain privately-held and close-knit.

Besides, just as Plaaneboy mentioned, getting an In-N-Out burger and spotting at LAX is the best!
